John Wright was kind enough to send me a list of plugs that will work. So off to Auto Zone that's up the street. They pulled out two different numbered plugs for me to examine. One had a vary short threaded portion. The next one had the tapered sealing surface. It too was short in the threaded area. I'm working on two 6500 watt Onans that were built in 1977. They differ from ours in that they aren't drawer mount. Downdraft carb, 110, and 220 volt, And use the generator as the starter motor. Both have just over 200 hours. The threaded hole in these are the same as in the head of my GMC Onan. About a half inch deep. The plugs in my GMC Onan were also too short. as they didn't use up the entire threads in the head. So with the short plugs in a long hole. One. You're short on heat transfer from the plug. Two. Carbon can build up on the sharp peaks of the threaded hole that are exposed to the combustion chamber. That carbon can in some cases cause preignition. I looked in the par
ts exchange book. Champion RH-12. Longer. But still looked shore. May just pull the head to look. Next. I called the Onan dealer. Got a plug number. Stopped at O'Reilly's to get one. It too was short, and tapered. Need to get back to the Onan dealer. This just shouldn't be this hard. Anyone else checked this thread depth think out?My situation is that with the elevator in the house due to Linda being in a wheelchair. If the power goes out. She would have no way to get out. Right now I have a Chinese 6000 watt generator. I just don't trust it. So I'm putting in one of the 37 year old American Onan's. That I trust. So now I have the Chinese, and the extra Onan for sale.Bob Dunahugh78 Royale.

The plugs that worked best for me was 2 bosh platinum plugs that came from a set of 8 that I had removed from the 455? Go figure I had gotten tired of messing with the champion plugs that were recommended . The Bosh plugs have been in there quite a while and always seem to fire?
