Spent the day scraping and sanding rust off the fuel tanks. A job fit for penitents and felons if ever there was one.

But, got them painted up with rustoleum and sealed with plasti-dip rubberized coating:

Also cleaned up the rails under the coach around the tanks. My first peek without the tanks, however, revealed a hole cut in the aluminum sheet and insulation sheet, but not the floor, right where the main tank sending unit sits.

The coach interior was rehabbed once before, and so were the tanks, so I don,t know if the hole was once all the way through and the floor replaced, or was it cut partway through in case the sending unit needed to be accessed.

Med-1972 DE-1068 following Russian cruiser pulling DITW sub to Egypt for repairs and after she dropped off the sub she followed us and got between us and the AsRoc we were testing against a fast attack boat. After 5 min or so of 'jousting' around we stopped about 500 yards from the Russians and up came the nuke. 3 or 4 khakis appeared in the sail of the boat, got on ther 2-MC and informed the Russians that should they be so stupid as to put a line on the AsRoc and recover it the next thing they would experience would be a delayed replay of the TITANIC. She backed way off and we got the AsRoc.

Subs are sneaky, bad-assed little bastards.

Scraping and painting sounds like a career on a carrier.

If you are a deck-ape it matters not what class ship you are on....it is your career....until you make leading seaman.

Well the thread has taken a 90 deg turn. However, some people cut the underfloor aluminum and insulation to give the sender adequate clearance so that vibration doesn't crack the fittings that may be hard up against the floor underside.

That is a thought. There is a gap between the frame and the body, so there should be room at the top of the tank, but there are impressions of the top of the tank on the aluminum above like they have been rubbing.

I'm sure the pads are part of it, but I think they are close anyway. I don't think it will hurt to provide a bit of relief there.
