P.S.
Forgot to mention. I have a 2007 Camry Hybrid. it has a lithium Ion battery bank charged by the engine or the free wheeling. I have 220,000 miles on it (tha'ts 360 km) and to date I have had no problems, no maintannce, beyond oil changes and a rear brake pad replacement abot 6 monts ago. The batteries perform flawlessly.

Not according to Toyota. Their publication Toyota Emergency Response says you have a nickle-metal-hydrid batteries. Get your facts straight.

Peter, I hear the same thing. That's why we bought the Toyota Prius C. Very little maintenance other than the oil at every 10,000 mile interval. I have a couple of hot rods. We bought this thing for "cheapness". Very Happy

I don't think any of the hybrids have really had any performance or life issues whether they are lithium or nickel based. Some of the early Hondas had some spotty issues. One reason for success is that the OEM's are very conservative with how low the packs can get. When it comes to all electrics, only the Leaf is experiencing some life issues in hot climates.

After reading about what the USN just accomplished with converting sea water to hydrogen I don't think electric automobiles are going to be all the enviro-whackos are hoping for. But I'm sure they will, after a couple of decades of looking, find another 'devil' gas that comes from that process to BMC about. First it was carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen and they got converters crammed down our throats....which, BTW is the reason the cars now pour out CO2..the present 'devil' gas.

I'm sure Al Gore is lying awake nights dreaming up how to profit from his next book of lies.
