I have a coach that has a very sticky shift cable. It will go from park to neutral but wont go any further. I disconnected it from the tranny the the tranny shifts fine. I was going to pull it this afternoon and try to work it free?. Is t toast or do I have a chance to save it?
Thanx. David

Try disconnecting both ends of the cable. I have seen a few rust up on the bottom (transmission) end. With a little bit of soaking with Kroil you can free it up. Then push it all the way both ways and lubricate the ends with anti-seize.

See if you can get a mix of ATF and acetone (50-50) to run into the housing and break it loose. If it does, flush it wuith that mixture and then oil it.

Mine froze up solid a few years back I had to disconnect the cable and put it in gear manually to get it home. This is the way I fixed it. The rust was on the transmission end of the cable which sits out in the water splash when driving in the rain and also collects condensation when parked outside on cool mornings.
The reason for the anti-seize is that it coats the metal connector on the cable ends and stays in place. So future rust up should not occur for many years. I learned this years ago from working on aircraft disc brakes. The caliper pins use to rust up and once a year we were fixing them. One clean up and anti-seize coating on pins prevents future rusting for many years.
I am not suggesting that you try to lube the actual cable inside the sheath. Once you get it loosened up and can pull it fully in each direction, anti-seize the first 4 or 6 inches only. You will see what I'm talking about. Graphite or oil while providing lubrication, will not prevent future rusting without re-application on an annual or semi-annual schedule.

Anything to loosen it up.
Try PB Blaster if necessary.
I have fixed two of these and both were binding on the bottom end and not in the cable portion itself. If it is moving slightly then any penetrating oil should to the trick.
