Timing 8 degrees, 800 rpm and no vacuum to distributor.
Idle 600 rpm in drive
The book says 8 degrees at 1100 rpm but that feels like to little advance, please correct me if I am wrong

Loffen,
What they were trying to do with their description was get the distributor on the running engine in a condition where the vacuum advance and also the mechanical advance was not operating. Obviously disconnecting the vacuum takes care of the vacuum advance engagement. After that you need to get the engine as slow a practical to keep the mechanical advance from engaging.
I suggest that 1100 number was chosen so the engine did not die while adjusting the distributor position. I personally would initially set the advance close to the spec at a higher RPM like 1100. Then I would slow down the engine idle speed to around 700 or 800 RPM and fine tune the final adjustment of the timing to the preferred static advance setting.

You are correct! Mechanical advance. I went back and corrected that posting.
I do not know what my RPM is at idle and I'm not near the coach to check it for you. I have mine set slower than most people. Dick Paterson mentioned that to me one time when he was looking at my coach. I like it there. I "think" it is around 600 in neutral and 550 in gear.
