I'm working on my stock front knuckles. The old timers are very aware that the first piece in. And the last piece out is the front disc rotors. It's a huge task to get them out. So the advice to the new owners is never let the steel part of your front pads come in contact with your rotors. They're a long way in too. And a long way out. My rotors looked very good. I still spent the $30 to have them both turned.Bob Dunahugh GMCMI Member78 Royale

My meory is hazy (for reasons unspecified) but didn't one of the early imports - honda maybe - specify that the discs be ground true on the car? And had a fixture for doing this? It would save a lot of grief if the GMC ones could be done this way. Anyone remember?

Bob,
This is interesting the stock rotors are 1.20 inches thick, the minimum thickness is 1.185; and the discard dimension is 1.17
inches.
Quote: "There must be 0.015" left for wear after turning disc's"
Ref. MM X-7525 - SECTION 5 - BRAKES - PAGE 5-38/39).
That means you can remove 0.0075 inches MAX from each side to remain within the specs.
