As I took out the oilcooler adaptor I tried to depress the bypass in the filteradaptor.
That seemed very easy, just the screwdriver and 2 fingers,

Wonder if that should be that easy?

I think it is a fairly soft spring, as the bypass operates at somewhere around 5 - 8 psi of pressure differential between the input and output of the filter.
