Randy, do me an unrelated favor...
If your insurer wants to exclude dogs by specific breed, please turn them down and tell them why.
Thanks,
Johnny

I am looking at purchasing a 1978 GMC, and found out my Auto/home Insurance company will not insure Class A rvs?
Any favorites out there?
In Texas, that might make a difference.

I don't know what it's like in Texas, but here I have different vehicles
insured by different companies...based on their rates. I have found that
getting all your insurable property is not going to get you the same
discount as doing the shopping yourself.
I have the motorhome insured with an out of Province company, the same as
my Porsche.
Lorraine's car and motorcycle just happens to be insured with the same
company as our house insurance, and my Rav4 is insured with the same
company as my BMW and Harley bikes.
Just what I did...

It also will not get the same level of service you get from a State Farm or others who can hold all your policies.

Been with State Farm for 40 years. Everyone I've ever worked with has told me how much money I could save by shopping insurance every year. I have watched them spend hours on the phone getting 'deals'....only problem was, when I gave them my policy coverage and asked them to check with their agents for the same coverage, nobody could match State Farm and when we have had claims they were covered, no questions asked. When we were dragged into tort court by an ambulance chaser who had actually parked in front of our house doing a recon, State Farm hired one of the best attorneys here, and their and his statement to us was they knew they were going to have to pay out the maximum coverage and that was not a problem. Preventing them from getting more and thereby into OUR money/property was the primary objective.
Can you say the same for some fly-by-night, on-line, we're on the other side of the country company?
I'll Stay with them for the duration.

I have my insurance spread across five companies. State Farm, USAA, Progressive, Continental Western, and Indiana Farmers Mutual.
The majority is with State Farm, but on certain items they are way over what I could find elsewhere. USAA gave me good rates on 2 vehicles but was almost double on my house insurance. Continental western covers two of my motorcycles at full coverage and liability for $50.00 each per year.
There can be a vast difference between companu quotes. I use to go with State Farm exclusively until I found that they occasionally will grossly over charge on some vehicles.
As an example they doubled my daughter's insurance because she had one ticket in her 16 years id driving. It was for making a U-turn at 3AM. USAA insured her car and one of mime with 100 deductible and 0 deductible comp for less than State Farm wanted for just her. Progressive through USAA also insures her motorcycle for about 1/2 of State Farm. On the other hand USAA was double Indiana Farmers and 80% more than State Farm on her house insurance.
I like State Farm and USAA. USAA service is great but they hand off RVs to Progressive. State Farm can be good at times but when my coach caught fire they refused to send out an adjuster.
They told me to take it to a repair facility of my choice for an estimate and have them contact State Farm. Because it was not drivable I asked if they would cover the towing to the repair facility. They said yes. I chose Jim Bounds in Orlando, Florida. I'm near Chicago. After a week I asked when they would pick up the coach. State Farm wanted someone closer but could not come up with anyone for GMCs on their own. So eventually they sent someone out to estimate my coach which was my original request.
The adjuster's first response was "Oh boy, how do I estimate this?" I handed the adjuster my personal itemized estimate. It listed everything I could tell was wrong without taking things apart. It also listed possible later add-ons. The adjuster asked how much I was charging for labor and I responded $55 per hour which was well below normal shop rates for the area. I also stated that all parts were actual cost with no markup. He took my estimate, never looked at the actual damage, and wrote on it "pay as per estimate, possible additional charges after dis-assembly". In the end they paid me over $9000 to fix it myself. They got a good deal and I got my coach repaired correctly with some added features.
So price around and yes service is important but even with companies like State Farm it may not always be the best.

I would not say "StateFarm in not in Canada".
Now they do not have anyone in your area.
However, they have many offcies or aganets throughout; Ontario, Alberta and New Brunswick.
They even have a DOT ca site.

Tony (Ontario Canada) Marie and I are blessed to have had a 2nd chance to buy our farm. Still hoping and more importantly praying to be able to build a garage. Our 1970 Ultravan #520 has an Olds Toronado 455 in back.

Loffen wrote on Fri, 07 March 2014 10:35 | How much do you guys pay for insurance on the GMC ?
I just ask since we have some pretty good deals here on classic car over 30 years old.
On my GMC I pay just under $ 100 for full coverage with a total loss value on the vehicle of $ 40,000 it has some restrictions on the milage and use but nothing I can't live with (Has to have another car as a dayly driver and so on)
|
Espen,
Here in Ontario, or at least so far, we have to use RV insurance and pay for a full year @ 510 per coach.
I wish I could get our RV collection on a classic car policy.
But then again to not be able to camp or use our coach(es) for what they were meant for is odd.

I went and looked. Liability on the GMC is $238 per year. Proximity to Atlanta I suspect runs it up a bit. On the toad it's a bill and a quarter a year. 250K and a half million.

Our premiums are paid monthly in one payment. Covers 2 cars, 2 motorcycles and the GMC. About $160.00 per month. $250,000 and a $1,000,000 umbrella policy....which we signed up for after the suit. The night (11:00 PM on a Saturday!) the server showed up at my front door is another whole story. I believe he crapped his pants and then sent out his resume.

Subject: Re: [GMCnet] Insurance
Our premiums are paid monthly in one payment. Covers 2 cars, 2 motorcycles
and the GMC. About $160.00 per month. $250,000 and a $1,000,000 umbrella
policy....which we signed up for after the suit. The night (11:00 PM on a
Saturday!) the server showed up at my front door is another whole story. I
believe he crapped his pants and then sent out his resume.

Thank you Mike. I already checked with them a week ago or so. They can not cover an RV or MH.
Tony (Ontario Canada) Marie and I are blessed to have had a 2nd chance to buy our farm. Still hoping and more importantly praying to be able to build a garage. Our 1970 Ultravan #520 has an Olds Toronado 455 in back.
