Right after we had the cooling system serviced and all the hoses replaced and tanks removed, cleaned and sealed a plastic 'y' fitting on the heater hoses that was routed to the water heater tank broke. I didn't want to deal with that so I bought an AC/Delco heater bypass valve ('H' shaped) and spliced the hoses in a series set up.After seeing the aluminum vacuum fittings I have to ask if those plastic things were OEM. My parts book does not show them but it does show a heater SHUT-OFF valve that would require a 3-way fitting.

I know, I should have spent that money on warehouse rental and done it myself...I'm having to redo most of it anyway. Live and learn.

Pretty sure they were stock. Both my Royale and Palm Beach had them.

That surprises me, I would have bet that the same company that used aluminum vacuum 't's' would have used the heater bypass valve and avoided plastic hose attachments. But for $28.00 for the valve and about $5 for barbed/brass couplings, I no longer have them.

Thanks for the info.

Mike,
If your coach was a GM upfitted model with the option for engine preheat of the house water, it had two metal tee's in the heater lines. One tee was at the rear of the intake manifold, the other near the water pump.
The heater shut off valve was metal --- but rusted and failed.
Here is the replacement I used...

Please consider adding the model of your coach to a signature line -- it helps when considering the answer to questions, since options and details varied.

My 1976 (GM upfitted) Palm Beach has metal tees. I forget whether they were steel, or brass, or what kind of metal. I do not have the 3 way valve you are talking about. Where is it located?

15/5543 is the AC/Delco part number. This is an 'H' pipe with a vacuum motor and is compatible with the heater controls on the GMC. We used similar ones to these (Ford units) in go-fast cars with a cable operated valve to bypass the heater when you were doing things the heater was not designed to withstand....like a Gurney-Weslake 305 at 8500 rpm.

With this unit you rid yourself of a couple of hose clamps and you don't get to see large clouds of steam pouring out of your engine compartment vents.

It is located just under the heater with 2 short sections of hose.

It isn't a valve it is a 'Y' fitting and was in the hoses on top of the intake.
