When I drove down to Ken Henderson's this week, before I even got out of the coach he said, "You're not going to like this."
Oil everywhere. We started wiping and investigating and pretty much narrowed it down to the front of the engine but couldn't nail it down.
It was only about a half quart low and it is a 'new' leak. The last time I drove it, there was no leaks and no puddles under the coach. But it dripped all over Ken's pit.
Drove home and it's about a half quart low so I had to resolve it. Did the talcum powder thing and saw that it was coming from somewhere above the front motor mount but couldn't tell and nothing up there can be addressed without lifting the front of the engine and pulling the motor mount and plate so out it came.
Turns out to be the front seal on the new engine, I hung the engine from the engine lift and ran it and watched the oil weap out9 &&*^%$##&. Not a huge deal but the power steering pump is leaking also and changing it is a pita!. Anyway a new seal and a new harmonic balancer will be in tomorrow morning. The old balancer had some surface issues which is what probably ate the oil seal. A new balancer is only $75ish at Advance Auto Parts...and since my son is the manager, I get to use his discount.
I've got a ton to do before we leave for GMCMI on the 18th and didn't need this. Oh well.

Kerry,
See if your son can get you one of these:
There is a high temp seal available:
Manufacturer: Chicago Rawhide / SKF
Part Number: 19923
If you want to see the whole thread log on to the forum and search gmc.mybirdfeeder.net for: Hi-Temperature Crankshaft Seal.

Best place to have a problem is at home.
Also Chicago rawhide is good stuff in my experience. Replaced the noisy Chinese front hubs on my XJ with Chicago Rawhide. USA ones and they are staying nice and quiet.

Kerry,
Before you install the new front crank seal, put some grease on it center seal part, but not the outside part.
Tony (Ontario Canada) Marie and I are blessed to have had a 2nd chance to buy our farm. Still hoping and more importantly praying to be able to build a garage. Our 1970 Ultravan #520 has an Olds Toronado 455 in back.
