H/P must fall like a 10 ton lead ball after 4000 on that 494.

G'day,

For those of you that can't figger out what mikethebike is talking about he I believe he is discussing the photo below which is the HP / TQ curves for the Vortec 8.1 (494 cu in)

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/random-photos/p52884-dyno-run-vortec-8-1.html

I suspect being a newbie he may be unaware that Dave has installed this engine in his Royale.

I believe that those of us that followed this installation as it progressed through presentations that Dave gave at GMCMI
Conventions will agree that was impeccable.

When Helen and I visited Dave and Mary several years ago I was gob smacked when Dave asked me if I would like to drive his Royale!
Would I? Is a pig's tail pork? Does a chicken have a beak? I can attest to the fact that it accelerated faster than any other GMC I
have EVER driven! As the saying goes; "it pulls like a train!" While I was driving it Dave noted that the fastest he's ever had it
up to was 75 mph and he got off the throttle because it was accelerating at a rate that scared him!

I have not run the numbers, however, based on my Olds 455 powered GMC with a TH-425 and 3.21 to 1 final drive (same as Dave) at 4000
rpm I am pretty sure he would be going damn near to and possibly over 100 mph so whatever the horsepower is above that rpm is moot
point in a GMC.
