Thank you all for the replies and advice. Right now I think the rod adjustment is the best way forwards. Moving the tilt does seem to have a positive effect and I do not think it is an issue with power as I have a charged battery and I hear no solenoid clicking. FWIW, I'm in Shelter Cove CA (A bad idea to come here. The road is heinous) on my way today to Coos Bay OR.

Sir: the ignition switch is on the outside of the column under the dash. there are 2 small screws you can loosen and slide the switch towards the firewall bout 1/8" and tighten.

Yours probably will not have the black dimmer switch pictured on the updated pic that is held on with the same screws.

Sorry for your problem.
But, more sorry to hear about access to Shelter Cove. I have been wanting to go there for some time.
What's the problem? Steep and curvy or bad road surface?
