Since joining the above my mailbox has been flooded with offers that I don't need or want. I really don't care and just recycle them, but is there any way to opt out of their marketing programs, or it that just the price you pay for joining? Just seems wasteful.

I have never heard of junk mail from GMGMI. Have been a member for ten years. Same for FMCA but they may "junk mail" new members.

I should have said I don't know the actual source, just the flood coincides with my signing up, and their websites do not seem to have an opt out option.

Perhaps you are correct about new members. It's only been a couple months since I joined. Perhaps it will slow or stop with time.

I've never had a problem with junk mail from GMCMI or FMCA. Good Sam, on the other hand, is the ultimate spammer, both electronic and especially through snail mail.

Same here.

Give FMCA a phone call and see what is up. I doubt it is GMCMI.

Could be any one of those entitles are selling their member lists to third party advertisers. Most likely FMCA. I get a lot of direct mail from Good Sam. Most of it ends up in the recycle bin.

David,
GMCMI does not send out junk mail. I have never received excessive junk mail from FMCA, they do send out information on the upcoming rallies, actives and benefits that you are getting with your membership.

They're making money on it or they wouldn't be doing it.  Anything that reduces dues or holds them constant is cool with me.  They don't come close to the number of insurance offers I get.  Credit cards have tapered off though.  And those two - to which I belong - don't combined hold a candle to AARP, to which I don't belong.  It's all fireplace kindling anyway.

Dave,

I have an interesting thing I have done for years. Different organizations get different addresses. Form this I know that GMCMI does not sell that roster to anybody at all - ever. FMCA did sell an address list to Good Sam or Camping World one time. All the other things from FMCA come from FMCA. They keep offering to insure my coach at its current replacement value, but every time I call them, they seem to have a problem..... Other than the GSCW-BS that is about it.

I really used to appreciate JC Whitless when we had to heat on the wood stove. There was always a new kindling in the mail.

David -- The only mail that GMCMI would send out to your email address is if you have requested electronic copies of the Quarterly newsletter. Otherwise you would get the newsletter by mail.

GMCMI does not and has never sent out any bulk mail with any offers of any kind. GMCMI does not market anything nor sell anything so I really think you are mistaken. Please check your emails and let me know what you think you may have gotten from GMCMI. I suspect that you will find that it come from someone else. Many people on this GMCNet are members of GMCMI and I am sure that they can tell you that they have never gotten bulk solicitations from GMCMI.

OK. Thanks.
I forgot to tell you that GMCMI also does not give out our member's names to any other parties either. And we do not sell any member lists.

Having served on the International board for several years, I know our
policy.
The membership list is never sold or given to soliciters
Fmca might sell their list.

as the mail list archive is publicly available, the email addresses can
easily be parsed from there. That could be a reason. I couldn't find
your address in it, though.

I doubt that is it. Someone published my address in plain text last year and I'm slowly recovering from that. I normally get 3 to 6 emails per day. My record in late December was 187. I have been solicited for everything imaginable. Very few things were even remotely associated with RV's. Of course I have also had the phishing and Nigerian money scams.

The number is now down below 100 per day and slowly dropping. I have had this happen before and it becomes manageable after about 3 months. After about 5 months the SPAM disappears.

Based on the above I doubt that is how you got on anyone's list. I have not seen an increase in snail mail solicitations. I do stand by the garbage can as I go through incoming snail mail. I use to dump them direct into the fireplace. I wish they would mail me logs instead of paper. I would go back to using the fireplace again.

Current temp is -9 here.

But Ken, you are such a sweet looking boy to some email spammers. They just can't resist. It is 5 degrees here. Will head out in one hour. The tracker will be on for you.

FMCA and GMCMI aren't the source. Nor do these organizations sell their
lists. It may be a coincidence.

If you get something from FMCA it will say FMCA. For the first two months
you may get email but it will settle down after that. I'm talking maybe
one every ten days.
