I will be installing the one ton suspension (soon I hope). I'm changing out the tie rods while I'm at it. The Moog ES361R's have been discontinued. Napa has the 25470's at 100 bucks a side!!! That's too steep for me. I've got one email out to a vendor that might have some Moogs for $51 each. We'll see if they actually have them. Anyone know where there are some available in the $50-60 range?

Hey Mikey;
We can't all live in the 'Socialist Republic of Nova Scotia.' [LOL-was there last weekend and noted the most expensive gasoline I've ever seen thanks to Gov't price setting $5.54/USD per gal] A free market is your best friend in the vast majority of instances and a smart consumer for GMC parts or anything else is his own best advocate.
Letting people vote with their feet when it comes to which businesses to patronize provides a market where the best service and the best pricing win out. A good free market deals with gougers and goof balls by starving them out in the medium and long term.
I buy my GMC parts from businesses with good pricing, but I also allow a premium for those that provide great service and support me and my mechanical addictions. lol
For a country that has an army that has never retreated from anyone, ever, we've turned into a bunch of weak-willed mushballs lately.

Just a follow up on this. Below is what I heard back from Northern this morning.
"Your order has been approved. Part of your order has to be ordered directly from the manufacturer. This will delay your order by 3 to 5 business days. If a longer delay is expected, we will contact you via email."
I'll let you know how long it eventually takes. The good news is that the parts are still being manufactured.

IDK..I've seen big differences in price between Advance, NAPA, and Autozone for the same parts with different boxes,and Northern usually has the same price as Advance. I've seen the price difference flow both ways, sometimes less expensive at NAPA for a China-made part. Pep Boys used to be the least expensive for me when I worked there, but now they are always more on hard parts and cheaper on accessories so their pricing structure has changed since 1982. Same story on tires, got the Kellys for $142 online at one place and others wanted $173 for the same tire plus shipping. Most places didn't have them or took me through a labyrinth of ordering only to find out they weren't available. Speaking of which, let's not count those chickens before he gets his tie rod ends!

You're going to be less-and-less capable of comparing prices on an item-by-item basis. I've written rudimentary dynamic pricing algos in the past, but it's getting very sophisticated now. There have even been instances of vendors charging more if you browsed with a Mac device.
The future of retail is dynamic pricing. So why can't we get it right?

Dynamic pricing...I've had the prices change at Amazon and Advance in the time it took me to put items in my cart and in between the cart and checkout! Gotta keep a sharp eye on the numbers when dealing with the sites.

I imagine most of you are familiar with Rock Auto. It's been a pretty good source of parts for me and the prices are pretty competitive on most things. Is also a good place to find part numbers if you don't have another source for that.

Update:
Got a call from Northern Auto today. The rep said that I was indefinite back order. That means it could be two weeks or two years before the order was filled. I decided to take the zero and keep looking.
As luck would have it, I was at the NAPA in Ankeny, IA last night to buy a pinion seal for the final drive I'm having freshened up by a local shop. The gentleman (Bob) at NAPA mentioned that he prided himself in finding hard to find parts for things like these GMC coaches. He said used to own his own parts store in Colorado and was well versed in finding obsolete or repurposed parts. So I thought I'd give him a try today on these inner tie rods. I called him at 12:30, but he was in a meeting so I left a message. By 3:30 he was calling me back with a supplier. I had to pay a bit more than my Northern price of $109, but for about an additional $20 I was willing to take the sure thing. I should have the parts in about a week. I'll let you know how this turns out.

If it doesn't turn out to your liking; Applied GMC, everyone's favorite GMC parts supplier, has GMC tie rods listed on the web site.
Had you ordered them at the time of your first posting you could have them installed by now.
We all love a bargain, but sometimes it's just not worth the brain damage when there is a ready source available.

You think your having problems acquiring parts.
Nick must spend over couple hours on the phone trying to locate parts for
our customers every day because they are on a long term back order from
the factory.
We have had lot of wrong parts sent to us, but we manage to catch most
before it ships out.
Jim B, Jeff S, and us have enough customers that trust our knowledge and
experience and know the price is fair.
Nick and I along with our techs spend lot of time on the phone free helping
people out.
Why don't some of you try that to the people at your current supplier. They
not only lack the knowledge about the coach, but truly don't give a hoote
about you, because your looking for a slow moving part.
Lots of ruck to you.
Most of you low price shoppers knowledge cannot begin to even come up to
the knowledge of the Jim B, Jeff S, Miguel M, and me.
If nothing else I know the individual people that know considerably
more about certain area of the coach and they do welcome my inquiry.
Having a shop with 2 full time techs make us better qualified to address
issues, than a one time experience.
Because you know some people on the net is nothing, when there are
considerably more people that seldom get on here that deal with us that
know lot about the coach.
We did not grow to where we have a customer base of over 4,000 because we
just supply part and not put something back.
For some o you new people, you should know that we put up a compete final
drive unit for a raffle/donation for the GMCnet and with help from Steve
and Nancy Ferguson, and Billy Massey was able to donate few thousand
dollars to help.
I made it possible for the GMC Classics to purchase the Heart Fribulator
after Ken Toma died at their rally. I donated anther final drive for their
raffle.
Last 7/8 years, I have been the major donator to GMC International twice a
year for value of over 2,500 a year.
If it was not for or other business that earns us large margin, you'll not
see us putting in so much.
I know I will rub some of you the wrong way, but I have heck of lot of
strong knowledgeable customer base that cannot care how I express myself
here.

With the possible exception of Bob DeKruyff, there is nobody on this forum that has the strange parts hunting experience that I have. Years ago, my success demanded that I locate strange parts, not just for road vehicles. It can be tough. This was way before internet, but internet just makes people think it is easy. Probably a third of the suppliers I still do business with have little or zero internet presence. I just got an e-mail from one announcing that they now have and e-mail address. I believe that they have had electric lights and indoor plumbing for a few years.
I live in striking range of a supplier of GMC parts that has nothing to do with the community. Do I buy parts there? Once in 6 years. I was desperate to get the repair done. There is little that they supply that I cannot beat both price and delivery on in the blink of an eye.
Want to share stories about catalog errors, defective parts, or mis-labled and mis-boxed parts? You bring the beer and be ready to listen for a long time.
Yes, shipping isn't free, but if you want free shipping, place the order with Applied for delivery at an international. When you get there, talk to Jim and pick up your parts.
Well, thanks for listening, I'll get back to working on a rally and presentation now.
