Did any of the GMCs come with shoulder seat belts? Has anybody installed aftermarket shoulder belts in their coach? Or maybe cannibalized some from any certain vehicles that fit well? Would really like to improve on the factory ones in the '73 model.

I'm with you, Mike. Every time the topic of shoulder harnesses comes up, I
get the heebie-jeebies just thinking of what would have happened to our
dear friends the Nicholls if they'd been wearing seat belts during this
accident:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/gmc-wrecks/p25810-nicholls-flatbed.html
When they came to rest after rolling down an embankment at nearly 55 mph,
they were both sitting in their seats with their seat belts attached. If
they'd had belts attached to the top 1/2 of the body, they'd certainly have
been garroted, or worse.
If I were considering shoulder harnesses, they WOULD be attached to the
seat, NOT the upper body structure.
There are photos of other accidents in which the upper body also departed
the lower; the Nicholls' was not unique.

Thanks for the information guys. Didn't know about the Harrisons in Woodbridge, may have to ride up there someday and check them out. Price for the aluminum plates seems a little high, since I could make them myself and they don't have the belt attachment set up already. Now I am concerned about the strength of the upper body and wondering if the project is really any better than the lap belts, safety wise. I was thinking that the 3 point would be easier to put on and make the navigator feel more secure. I replaced the factory seats because the backrest was not adjustable and they were very uncomfortable after more than 10 minutes of driving/riding. I don't think I would want to attach shoulder belts to the adjustable backrest of the seats I installed in there, so I'm not sure what I will do now, besides just drive slow and leave lots of space between me and anybody in front like I have been doing anyway.

The 2 point harness has worked well, I know folks who have had some pretty bad accidents. The front and rear frame sections direct the force away from the interior so it's a system, not just a seat belt. Keep what you have, it works. Don't risk your life on your engineering, use theirs.

I have some fancy flexsteel seats in mine with integrated shoulder harnesses. Seems like an OK deal.
I sure wouldn't tie into the body ...
The biggest issue with my seats is how they are attached by some grade 5 bolts and washers to the plywood flooring.
They did use big washers though <rolls eyes>
So I'm sure me and the floor will all be ejected together in a nice bundle.
Thanks for reminding me that I need to tie into the factory mounting locations for the seats
