This is a bad year for saving GMC tech info.
------------------
read here about places that:
- made their own rules,
- for your data
- and this year:
- destroyed or captured your data
- sell it back to you
- make you join (pay) to get it back
- like public media

--------------------

- There are only 3 places that will provide
your, GMC information,
you can link to, forever

--------------------------------------
The really bad news is
WE HAVE TO DO OUR OWN BACKUP

computing is changing:
- MS is ending support for XP
-
smart devices are changing the way we store data

-
cloud storage does not work
- backup software - does not work

-
here are some of the issues
link
https://sites.google.com/site/greentreesvillagecomputerclub/

what can we do?
- backup your own "smart devices"
- and computer
- buy an external hard drive
- back up your own data
- do something like this:

I don't see the link between what you posted and the first video. Anything stored online (in the cloud) is subject to loss. Devices and websites come and go. If the GMC server were to melt down all our posts might be lost (depending on how backups are maintained). Anything you don't own is at the whim of whoever owns it.

Can you elaborate on what you are saying?

I guess I just assumed everyone backed up/saved what they wanted anyway. Good advice to those who do not.

I use a program named Sitesucker to capture an archive of my favorite tech information web sites. I try to keep these archives fairly current. Once it's on my own storage media I can access the info even when the internet is down or if the web site ceases to exist. Sitesucker runs on Apple OS but I am sure there are equivalent programs for other operating systems. I don't know any other way to future proof what is found on the internet.
