Hello Everyone,

I've been looking at pictures of coaches and I have seen front seats that I believe were stock from the factory GMC build.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The seats have two arm rest each. The arm rest fold down to make the seat wider and more importantly easier to get in and out of.

Questions:

1) Are those kind of front seats stock?

2) What year and/or model did they come in?

3) I need measurements
a. How wide?

b. How tall/high at the front of the seat where your legs bend down over. (From top of wheel well or bottom of base to top where your legs hang over)

c. Does anyone have some for sale?

Thank you,

Tony (Ontario Canada)
Marie and I are blessed to have had a 2nd chance to buy our farm.
Still hoping and more importantly praying to be able to build a garage.

Tony,
Most people prefer the Odyssey second row minivan seats.
The newer ones only have arm rests on the inside.
They can be bought new (2nd hand) from a van conversion guy
in Arizona.

They fold up tight and can be shipped easily.

I had my original GMC seats recovered, but was never happy
with them. I don't think they are worth much. It probably costs
more to ship them than they are worth.

Most of the earlier GMCs did not have arm rests.

Regards,
Bill

Tony,
This is the guy that I bought my seats from and I think the one that Bill is referring to:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-ODYSSEY-new-unused-2-BUCKET-SEATS-MIDDLE-SEAT-CONSOLE-GRAY-LEATHER-/131069811147

The guy's name is Vlado - nice guy. The auction shows that he's in Scottsdale but he moved a while ago. He's now near Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix and he has a small warehouse full of seats. Normally I wouldn't post a phone number, but he's doing business...

Tony, don't know if you got your questions answered but I am possibly the only person on earth who actually LIKES the OEM seats. They are as you described, two armrests, you can deploy, one or both. There is a plastic cover on the back of the seat, that is usually troublesome, holding it up in place. I can get you the dimensions if that is what you are after.

Larry,

Nope, there are at least two of us. I removed the plastic back of the driver seat, cut a couple of pieces of pvc pipe 1 1/2" diameter, placed them between the springs and the padding for lumbar support and put it back together. I can drive all day without a sore back. This was on my 77 Kingsley. This tip came from an old GMCMI newsletter.

I like the what I believe to be stock seats in my 78 Royale (rear bath). Cloth cover with a pillow-top (no "Turtle Back plastic back-shell), two drop down armrests, map pockets on the back. Passenger seats reclines.

Don't have specific pictures of the seats but these kinda show what what I got.

A fellow GMCer here in El Paso had similar seats in his 77 Royale only the passenger side doesn't recline. He's replacing them with Honda seats. Said he was going to trash the old ones.

Bill, I might take them off your hands.
However, I need to make sure they are going to work for my application.

We have 6 Ultravans in our collection.
We plan to use and enjoy each one – once we have fixed them up.
So I might be looking for more of these kind of seats; if they work and I like the first set I get.

Larry, I’m in no hurry but if you would be so kind to get the measurements for me that would be great!
The seats that the PO installed in one of our Ultravans are way too tall. My knees rub on the steering wheel.
They are also a pain to get in and out of..

1) -- yes.
2) -- Gm upfitted coaches 1975 to 1978.
3a) -- I'd have to dig them out of storage.
3b) -- that could be adjusted (some) but mine are not mounted so I wouldn't know or be able to measure.
3c) -- yes, I have a total of four, 2 brown/2 green. One brown needs welding. Pick up only, Hillsboro OR... free. (Pay it forward.)

I want to mount the seats with a swivel base to the top of the wheel-well

Here is a link to a picture of the seat I’m asking about.
While the ad is still up on craigslist the link to the picture of the seat should work. (see it while you can)

The seat itself does not look to be too tall/high or thick (call it what you will) the part that is under the steering wheel in my concern.

The seat with the orange upholstery is the OEM seat that I am referring to. What measurements are you looking for and I will get you those measurements today. It does look like you might have a problem with even the OEM seat in that the "box" your seat sits on is way bigger than the little OEM "box".

As seen in the picture: the most important measurement is how tall or thick the front part of the seat is with and without the mounting bracket.

This is the style of GMC seat I have been talking about.
The picture shows what/how I need it measured.

Larry,

It might be helpful to Tony if you would take a photo of the bottom of the seat if that's possible.

Tony,

The height to the top of the flat (not slanted) swivel base is 8 inches.

The height of the chair seat from the top of the swivel base to the seat is 11 inches, that's at rest (not sitting in it).

I think the comfort is in how the padding is assembled and shaped for body contour. These seats don't fold so the shipping will be a big cost, unless you pick them up.

Hope this can help in your decision.

First off; I'm glad The forum is back up and running. I was having withdraws... (Grin)

Thanks for the measurements.
If it is not too much trouble could I get one more measurement?
The top of the padding, where I have the yellow line, to just under the seat it self?

EDIT:
I forgot to say; I hope to fly out to CA in spring, or summer as my backup, and buy either a GMC MH or truck and haul a rare boat back with some Corvair stuff.

I could pick up seats then while in CA or on the way back east.

From the top of the cushion, at the steering wheel, to the bottom of the seat "bracket" (that holds up the seat...it is actually a part of the seat frame) is 9". From the top of the cushion at the steering wheel, to the bottom of the SLIDE it is 10.75".

Sorry I forgot to get the others, but it appears you got them.
