I have double wrap bands and the band tool.  With this, you can have doublw wrap bands sinched down so tight its really the way to go.  Mine are not generic straps from McMaster- Carr!  If you want the real thing, give me a call,

Ken, I am familiar with the Band-It strapping machine used in the packing/shipping scenario. Back in 1984 I used our strapping setup at the airport to strap a floor sander motor to a wooden frame so I could use it to drive a York automotive air conditioning compressor to make my own higher volume air compressor. My dad had made his compressor from a refrigerator compressor but it didn't have enough volume to use for spray painting large projects, like cars. Man, that sander motor ran 6000 RPM and really wound up that York even though the pulley ratio was about 3 to 1. The motor had no mounting brackets on it, so I just made a V-block out of wood and strapped the motor in the wedge. Those were 1/2 inch wide straps and they are still on there. Back then the McMaster-Carr catalog was always on the counter in the Flight International parts department. It was about 3 inches thick. I guess they have it online now, I will check them out

Bruce, I spent the same 3 days looking for those CV boot clamps that I thought would be commonplace. Nobody has them anymore because the auto shops just get a remanned axle. None of the shops replace boots or repair axles anymore. I don't remember where I found the Dorman part number, maybe on Amazon, but I stopped by Autozone and gave them the number and they had it in stock. So I got 2 sets. It comes with the large and small clamp in one package and I just needed one large clamp at the time. I really don't want to need any more, but I'm going to check out what Ken recommended because that would be useful for any size and other types of projects.
