We are here in Oswego, NY with 18 degrees on the thermometer and wish I was packing our GMC. Or better yet be away with the family.
My wife and I are sick of the snow (lake effect) and the cold.
I have inquired about a couple of rigs, and hope to drive over to see one I have found that is a couple of hours away.
I plan on retiring next year and we want to find a different state to live in.
So I came across the idea to travel the eastern side of the US to find such a home. We have 2 dogs who will be with us so a motor home was the best choice.(See honey, it will be for all of Us!!!)
I hope to have one by spring and with any luck be headin' out by April.
After 33 years at one job and some people reminding me I'm getting older, (I didn't notice that coming) my wife is suffering with arthritis, and I'm not far behind, now is the time for change.
So with the help from the GMC community we will have our own rig soon...
In between I hope I can help with some of my experience with repairs I have learned in the past years of my mechanical experience. I have worked in fleet maintenance for a local university here in town, but finally see myself at that journeys end.
Oh, by the way... now it's 13 degrees!!!!!

Kevin,
This is great! I am looking forward to meeting you and other posters and lurkers on the forum. Welcome, and you have the best reason for owning a rig. Wanting one.
I am retiring soon (some say retired some time ago, just pretending to work now), and am looking forward toward some mobility in our glam-mobile. Right now, there are many things lacking.
But, with the folks on this forum, and the low prices presently, you should be in good shape.
No distance issue should bother you. Just find a likely candidate, ask if someone on the forum could check it out for you, fly out, likely buy some tires, and motor on home. I drove from California to Texas with no problems lasting more than an hour or so each time.
I believe the technology and reengineering is making the coaches more dependable and comfortable all the time. Other brands costing much more will have the same net number of problems as we do, but you will have less control of the cost or repair time frame.
Welcome again, and hope weather improves up there. It can really, really snow up there.
Best,
Carey Bryan

I'd hate to admit it but my first thought into getting a GMC was for the low rise for entry, no, wait, it's the visibility from the cockpit, no. maybe it's the bogie wheel suspension... It seems with all these features, how could you go wrong. I especially like the fact the parts are readily available too!!!
I mostly hope my wife will remember the good ole days when I use to work 2 jobs too.
Darn, now it's 11 degrees!!!!

Welcome KevinZ, nice to see a fellow New Yorker interested in GMCs. I'm down the Hudson near Poughkeepsie.
There was someone up around the Lake George area that had a nice Royale for sale last year, don't have his name handy but if you might be interested I will try to find it.
Good luck,

Sorry to hear about your lake effect snow. It was in the 60's today in Lower Alabama. Low tax State also, with lower property taxes than Florida. Welcome to looking forward to the South and mild Winters.

Kevin, welcome to this group. I am on my second coach. With my first coach, a 1975 Palm Beach, and after many years of faithful service, I decided that I really needed to see what being a "busnut" was all about. Big mistake, at least for us. So after 10 years of "busnutery" I sold my GM4106 which I had converted, and bought a 1977 Eleganza and now I am back to motoring down the highway with both elbows planted on armrests and steering with one finger.
This hobby is like boating/sailing.....there are folks that sail the globe in 24' quite happily, and there are folks that get the "need more space" disease. I am glad to be back in this world of GMCMH ownership and, like you, am looking forward to getting out of my work harness and using our coach for what it was intended......travelling.
Good luck with your search.

Kevin,
Suggest you have a look at the GMC Heritage Cruiser web site at www.gmcheritagecruisers.com. it has some GMCs for sale in New York state and Ontario. Our club is made up of members from mostly NY and Ontario. Give us a call if you think we can help. There are phone numbers on the site.
Good luck in your search.

My opinion is to fly to L.A. area and buy one here that has no salt and rust on the frame.
Take it to Jim K and have it looked over and move to L.A. Area, for the weather and area is
chosen by the rich and famous that can do and go anywhere for a reason. Mickey anaheim ca. 77palm beach.
364 days a year there is sun never under 48 degrees see the sun every day, sea, ski, dive, sail, all within 2 hour radius.
learn, invest, live with food from all over the world at the sea port exercise out doors everyday. No heating bills.
rent is cheap, and much to do. Many have no idea how this effects ones life - summer all year - many only see traffic, earth moving,
fires, and mass living problems. Most must stay next to family and cannot make the move. THose that do, always are happy they did.
There is much money here and many to be helped for money for many reasons. In all- the best place in the world to choose
for more reasons than not. It is not perfect and depends on the knowledge of the person choosing.
It has low humidity, no bugs, plenty of fruit, in all a very exciting area to live with the movie industry and sporting life.
Most people that have a gmc here have taken good care of them and when they die let them go cheap.
THis is an honest view that most never care enough to say, and most will disagree. But few really know or care to tell anyone
for enjoying it makes one want to protect it from othesr coming. fini. 20 miles inland from santa barbara to san diego best in us.
THis is not so say that happiness, and a great life is not had anywhere in the world. It can be. But here has it's own alone.
Perfect weather at the least. this is great for gmcing.

Great suggestions..I started a reply yesterday, it was 6 degrees, and I got busy doing other things.
I can see there are many places to visit, one other deciding factor, Oswego City taxes are proposed to increase 81% next year. Thank goodness we live outside the city limits.
I don't know how well our house will sell here, but knowing we had a traveling home would make this not an issue.
For the most part, I notice the majority of owners of the GMC take pride and maintain their coaches well. I have seen the occasional barn find that needs 'help'.
I feel no matter what we choose, the buying guides and previous owners knowing their rigs, makes buying with no real surprises.
Thank You all for your help so far!!!

Mickey you give me a laugh frome time to time . I sure do miss the nice weather there and the fact that I lived only a few miles from Huntington State Beach but when I retired and did not need to earn a good living wage we couldn't wait to pack up and get out of the heavily populated area. Northern Nevada is bitting cold right now but in less then a week the GMC will be loaded and headed for the sunny California desert and a visit to family that won't move out.

True, things will happen, but all things considered, I even end up fixing things under warranty for new vehicles...
I can not blame Father Time for what happens, and these coaches are aging, I just feel people here are at least sincere, and I can help keep the GMC and RVing alive. One thing I truly believe, nothing will happen that in the motoring world hasn't happened before and will again, and again....
