In 66, Olds spared no expense to make sure the front wheel drive unit was as quiet as possible. Is that cover worth installing on our GMC's? I think probably not.For those that didn't know about the cover. It covered the stamped steel chain cover for sound reduction. I believe it was used for 1966 only.

Sound control might be important, but there is a cooling issue that the
coach needs.
By the way, the plastic cover was a molded fiberglass to help attenuate the
sound.
Even the timing chain gears wer made of some phonolic materiel to quiet it.

Perhaps My hearing is better? All the noise from my engine room is that whine...
...Unless it is something else, but it seemed to start when I got that upgrade.
