I have no record of front wheel bearing service, I need to replace trans hoses, and it would not hurt for an expert to poke around with my coach. Plan I have is 3 to 5 day trip .Pull trailer with motorcycle. I may wish to look over shoulder as expert spends hour or so inspecting and etc. but when it came to work, for me to use motorcycle to sight see. and let expert do what he does. I am sure budget will come into play(it always does).
I see a couple options in florida, There is ohio, and I think Pennslyvania. (i know california is out of budget.
So, based on experiences related to site seeing, I seek input and suggestions? I understand the closer to home the more site seeing and repair money is available.
so please, this is not about which vendor is best, this is about which vendor is blessed with the most sight seeing bang for the buck. Yes, the ocean in florida is nice, but so is nc outerbanks.
What I am after is bang for the buck, nice sight seeing with the little PM work on coach as a bonus .
thanks

Brian,

Interesting post.

If you were willing to get the knuckles greasy and flex the muscles of your
body, you would probably come across a few "experts" that would be happy to
point out some things while checking the sights.

The Dixielanders have annually had a work rally in Eastern Tennessee. There
are lots of experts to help with stuff but they do require that you do the
work.

The next part is handling the bearings.

I was fortunate in that my "expert" was trained to service these coaches
back in the day. He worked at a GMC MH dealership and had all kinds of great
experience. He also owns a GMC. Dyn-o-mite. You know who I counted on.

If you are willing to do most of the work with expert guidance, join the Dixielanders and come to the Bean Station, TN work rally.

They are a great bunch of people. I have been there for the last 6 or 8 years and it is 500 miles one way for me. You ought to easily make it from NC.

.... to attend Bean Station you have to first join the Dixielanders, otherwise you would bump a dues paying member out of a campsite and position on the pit at the rally.

sounds like i may need to join the dixielanders.
But I still may be better off paying someone who knows what they are doing.
Besides the bearing tool, is there any other special tool needed for front bearings, and how does that job rate compared to say a drum brake sevice?
thanks

I kind of agree. If your coach front end doesn't need anything close to a full rebuild, have a knowledgeable person, do the bearings (measuring everything) and install zerks. Then the front will be good for a LONG time.

If your coach need much more than bearings, just go one ton and be done. Besides the upgrade to the brakes, bearings and CV joints, it is cheaper than fixing the parts being replaced.

Brian,
Come on up to Pennsylvania. Have Ken Frey check out the coach and do a little history tour on the motorcycle. Valley Forge national park is near by, Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, and maybe a day trip to Hersey park or Gettysburg.

I did not know the history on my bearings so I just had Ken Frey do mine. I did bearings and bushings, and WOW, what a difference the bushings made. Front end is really tight now. I know others would have gone straight to the one ton, but this was seemed like a good option for my budget and likely use of the coach.

Still planning my first trip. I want to do Bowlimg Green Kentucky but will likely do a shorter trip first.

Steve,
that sounds like what i need to do. I have no tru concerns with my front end except knowing I had not done them. And I do know that sometimes we are better off just letting people do what they do.
