Attempted to install Applied's alternator tensioning system in an effort to make maintenance of the belts a bit easier. 4 hours later I ended giving up and installed the belt the OEM way.

The main problem was that if I installed the tensioner first, I couldn't loosen the alternator enough to get the belt on. The "L" stop bracket kept interfering with getting the alternator loose enough to slip the belt on. I believe I was using the correct belt (Gates 7570),

Is there a secret squirrel method to get this system to work?

This is on a 78 Royale with stock 403.

I have one. After not being able to get it mounted I just sat back and looked at it. The bolt they sent with it was too short. I called and got the bolt replaced with a longer one and it mounted right up.

THank you. mickey :-)

mendella's favorite peom

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever god may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

A great man whose big life touched so many. I’m happy to know many people, who in a much smaller way, live up to these kind of ideals, and in their way make this world a better place. I’m richer for having known the big and small. Just look at the friendship and generosity we witness here daily.

Dan says it best - Life is Good.
