Anybody out there have a right side torsion bar for sale? I need one for my 73 260, mine is weak and twisted. I'm on the East coast and am hoping to find one kinda close to save time and shipping, or better yet find one within a local drive in Virginia.

Thanks!

be sure it is not the socket in the lower control arm , that is bad,

rather than the torsion bar

Thanks Gene, I will check that out and see if it is the cause of the curve in the bar. BTW, I thought the upgrade included new lower control arms...I guess not.

Yeah, Ken's photo description says he did the 1 ton upgrade, so that's why I was wondering.

Terry,

The control arms provided in the kit are not NEW -- they are modified and
reinforced. Manny merely missed the flaw in my early production kit. More
careful inspection since then, and modified reinforcement of the damaged
area, should ensure that no one else has my problem with arms in his kits.
My objective in posting the photos was to show what can, and does, happen
to OEM arms.

By the way, Manny's now resting quietly in my 23' in the RV shelter beside
my shop where we've got 4 TH-425's in various states of rebuilding. :-)

Wish I could get a little more twist from my TH425...but it still moves the coach out of the driveway and gets me past chicken speed so I'll leave it alone. I can't get a good look at the socket for the torsion bar in the control arm to see if it has worn out. Mr Boyd has offered me a bar and I think I'll get it just to be sure that I cover my parts. Especially since I'll have to remove the bar to check for wear, according to Ken's photo descriptions. Right now there is about an inch and a half of threads between the nut and the pork chop on the right side and the other side has about an inch of threads below the nut so something is off, maybe a PO put a longer bolt in the left side or a different chop. Couldn't get under that side today to do a comparison because of stuff in the way. The coach sits level, but it feels like it's low on the right front while going down the road. Anybody else get that feeling? It felt that way before I added the wheel spacers, even though putting them on caused the front end to drop over an inch.

Terry,
The ride height is not something that is set by feel or thread length of the adjusting bolts showing. It is set by taking the proper measurements and adjusting the both front and back.

Set the coach on a level as possible surface and do a preliminary measurement. I would suggest doing the front first and getting is as close as you can and then do the rear. Check your work after each adjustment and then drive it for about 2 to 4 miles then measure again. This process may take several times to get each side and each end correct. DO NOT adjust the front without using a torsion bar unloading tool. Also put some never seize on the threads of the bolt, I use the copper based never seize. You can damage the threads of the bolts and they can be difficult to find locally. I ordered mine from Jim K before I started just to replace the ones that were under the coach.

The bolts are somewhat special as they have a rounded ball surface ground on the end to fit the pork chop. They are grade 8 or better.

Others here on the net may be able to point you to a local source that has the bolts. Good luck and take your time.

As for lower socket washout on the A-arms, it could be your issue, but if the torsion bar come out easily it may not and be totally an adjustment process. Check both side sockets carefully. I had a friend who’s 1978 coach had both sockets fail at the same time.
