If folks don't already check JimB's Daily Pose, he did a great job of explaining the steps needed to properly check the steering on our coaches today. Well worth the read!

George,

Thanks, I put that up after all but loosing my voice trying to get folks to understand that working on the GMC is not just looking for what is broken---- today.  Here in Florida, I have an image of being expensive -- that's because I refuse to replace "just the 2 bad spark plugs".  If there is an issue with your ignition system, I will replace 8 plugs, the plug wires, dist. cap, rotor, maybe the module, coil & pickup if you could not tell me their age.  There are so many parts on these critters and any one of them could literally be 35-40 years old!  Are you saying you are willing to risk breaking down on the road and meet "Bubba" as your mechanic because you are too cheap to not take reasonable steps?  You will not do that here!

If you do not look at any system in your coach this way effecting repairs-- you ARE cheap and you will always be working on your coach!  Has nothing to do with a budget, how can you set a budget on something you have no idea the trouble?  I'm wasting away trying to get folks to understand what it is to bring one of these to the road.

I have a 23' coach in here that was hanger kept for 15 years.  Bought it for $7500 and we have more than that in trying to get it to a reliable state.  Guys, it just takes it!  It's just a tough love situation, if someone does not prepare you for life as they did with Maven Johnson (son this is ---- and this is shinola) how can you live?

There are many small steps within the ones I listed, no time to cover it  all but this can point you.

Thanks again George, maybe one day the message will stick...

Jim Bounds

I would agree ( once again ) with the logic of Jim B on this point. Often the cost of labor is not calculated on this forum but the focus lies on cost of parts. The amount of time spent chasing and diagnosing run ability and performance issues related to over cheap implementation of parts can end up costing you more when you are paying for labor. Ignition parts, Brake parts and replacement labor are cheap when compared to the labor time involved with diagnostic and attempted repairs to systems with aging readily available new replacement parts.
But you enjoy it you say?
I am doing this myself so the labor is free you say? There are plenty of other things that need your attention on any GMC.
