I took an old Onan bearing and was able to easily pop out the seal. It also easily snapped back into place and seemed content to stay. Has anyone actually tried to add grease to one of the bearings this way? I'm concerned that once the bearing warms up a bit the seal may just pop out.
I seem to recall a photo somewhere, probably among Jim's photos, of an Onan running with the bearing seal removed. That would be OK for bench testing but probably not for normal use unless you fabricated a dust cover for it, however rear clearance in the Onan compartment is very tight. Has anyone done that?

Interesting idea. I have some some large bore hypodermic needles for injecting high viscosity oil into pressure sensor tubes. I'll pack some Syntech into one and see if I can do what you suggested. Thanks!

That actually worked pretty well. I took a 3cc syringe and filled it with Syntech. The lip seal near the inner race is pretty soft, so I injected in three equally spaced places around it. Other than being hard to press the plunger it wasn't too bad. A larger syringe with the same size needle would make the process easier. Thanks again for the idea!

So would this have any effect on an already-leaking seal/bearing? I disassembled my onan about 4 months ago and replaced the gasket. I still have a gushing leak so I assume the leak is at the seal.
I may give this another try if I don't run out of warm weather. Otherwise, I'll have to fix it with my Mastercard.

I've added grease to them. IMO that bearing doesn't have a whole lot to do back there. If you are worried about it you can buy them for a few bucks off amazon or ebay; I keep a few around the Miller compound in case a really bad one comes along but none ever has.

Two different things. The flush mount fittings are for like U joints and liw clearance areas. That tool is to get grease in them. The needle is different with an angle cut tip like a real medical needle. I think Lubramatic and ithers make them. I use on XJ lower ball joints that don't have fittings
