Here's a European show comparing different motorhomes on the same chassis as the new Dodge.

Sorry - Ram.

Jim,

Well spotted!

Here's a link to the spec's:

http://www.trakka.com.au/specifications.php?vehicle=Trakkaway&model=860

Note the following:

ENGINE:
Displacement (cc) 2,999
Cylinders 4
Maximum power (kW) 132 = 177 (hp)
Maximum torque (Nm) 400 = 295

TRANSMISSION:
Auto/Manual 6-speed Auto (Comfortmatic)
Drive Front Wheel

WEIGHTS:
Tare (kg) 4,250 = 9,369 (lb)
GVM (kg) 5,000 = 11,023 (lb)
Maximum payload excl. options (kg) 750 = 1653 (lb)
Maximum towable (kg) 1,200 = 2,645 (lb)

HEY, I just noticed the .au in their website address and that they're physical address is:

TRAKKA PTY LTD
9 Beaumont Road
Mount Kuring-gai
NSW 2080 AUSTRALIA
maptrakka@trakka.com.au

That's only 38 km (23 mi) from my house! Looks like I'll be paying them a visit to see what I can learn when I get back home!

Thanks, Jim.

That's really interesting. I calculate that the 860 is just a bit over 28' overall. GVWR is 11,000# and tow capacity 2,640#.

Probably wouldn't be a speed demon with the power, but with six speeds, ought to do fine.

I'm sure that we'll be seeing US RV builders coming up with product fairly quickly.

The AL KO rear suspensions are elastic (rubber?) based torsion axles and are commonly used on some US-made trailers. I believe I had two of them on a 28' Aerolite travel trailer. They work quite well.

That just doesn't seem like enough torque, even with 6 gears. Any idea what the horsepower and torque figures are from Manny's 4 cylinder diesel?

Larry,

I believe Manny is using a 4BT - Not sure what the configuration is though.... Turbo/Injector upgrades/Etc.

Start here for a baseline:

Drive that front chassis out from under the SOB and slide it under your coach - just as a test fit!

If the numbers are right that engine has much more torque than Manny's. That's a good thing - I understand Manny isn't too happy getting on to the freeway.

I couldn't tell how the tandem was done, so, I wrote them a note asking (and also if Fiat / Chrysler) configured the bare chassi longer than 159 inches.

Hey Mueller, how much is the starting price in non-metric money (i.e. US Greenbacks) I mean, $209,000. could be rich or a bargain.

Meanwhile, the Winnebago Trend - lists ROUND $90,000. PRETTY NICELY EQUIPPED (AND, btw, WITH THE CHRYSLER v-6 GASSER)

The version here has it's own drivetrain package(2). Initially it is available with the 3.6 and 6 spd tranny (read Chrysler minivan). It's a very nice combo based on my initial testing. The VM Motori diesel will be next.

Thanks Rob - I though the Aussie dollar was on a par with the USD but, wasn't certain.
$200K is some real money no matter WHERE it's printed.

Looks like a re-powering of the GMC (the original point) seems still the most cost-effective way to go (even if it ran $100K.)
