G'day,

Those of you that can remember my messages from last summer (2012) even after Emery helped me get it running after I left his home
it began to play up on hot days after running an hour or so.

Troubleshooting pointed to a gas starvation problem so I ordered a new Facet pump (just like the OEM) and a carb rebuild kit. I
never got around to installing them last year but I knew I had to do so before we left this year.

At any rate before we left on this year's tour I removed the old pump and carb. I decided to disassemble the pump to see if / what
was wrong with it. I removed the bottom and the filter. I removed the clip that retains the check valve and removed it followed by
the washer followed by the o-ring followed by the spring and finally the shuttle.

The spring was pressing on the o-ring! HUH?

The order of disassembly SHOULD be clip - washer - O-ring - check valve - spring. I had put the damn thing together WRONG! I
couldn't figger out WHY I did that as I had the manual out when I assembled it and common sense tells you don't have a spring in
direct contact with an O-ring! Yes, it was deformed.

Since I had purchased a new pump I decided to use it so I got new fittings for both the carb and pump to make sure the problem
wasn't bad fittings allowing the pump to suck air. When it was all assembled I said to myself; "I think I'll check this pump before
I install it." I touched the body to the negative post of a spare battery and the wire to the positive post and NADA, NOTHING, REIN,
NICHTS! WTH - A brand new pump that doesn't work? I disassembled it and took it apart but the shuttle wouldn't come out. I took a
block of wood and smacked the open end down hard a couple of times and the "bottom" of the shuttle was exposed enough allow grabbing
it with a pair of needle nose pliers. I pulled it out and it was rusted! I cleaned the rust off with some 400 grit paper and cut a
piece off a green Scotch Bright pad and polished the shuttle bore. I reassembled the pump and it worked fine.

I also rebuilt the carb and the Onan ran just fine during our three month tour this summer.

Regards,
Rob M.

Rob,
You're the acknowledged in-house master of the use of all the GMC maint manuals, can you tell me if there is an IPB for the OEM power steering pump and if so, please direct me to it.

I have partially disassembled one and am now unsure of the order of reassembly. Just like your issue with the Onan fuel pump.

The way I remember it coming apart doesn't seem right to me now.

Thanks.

Gene,

Thanks for the compliment.

The Parts Book has an exploded view of the power steering pump on page 16-20. It is figure

16.060 PUMP - HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING
