Greetings,
I cannot get the left side of my EL-II suspension to shut off. Whenever I turn the ignition on, the compressor turns on and continues to run until I either turn off the ignition, or pull the fuse. I thought it might be the control switches, so I removed them and cleaned them, but the compressor continues to run even with all three of the switches disconnected. I disconnected the plug that I thought was the power source on the compressor, but it is obviously not it. I'm totally lost. I have a schematic of the system, but I don't understand it. The system does not leak, so I'd really like to not have to replace the whole thing. Does anyone know how to work on it?
It is time for a new front end, on the Royale, and I was planning on putting on installing the original with a one ton set up, but replacing the front end and adding a new rear suspensions is a lot for me to handle at this point. I also have no headlights, so I need to figure out how to work on the Caddy steering column.
I have loved working on and enjoying my GMC since I've had it for the last 12 years, but it is getting to the point where I may have to give it up. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

I am not sure about the Royale but look for a relay near the pressure switch. It might be sticking. It also could be in the pressure switch itself. Either of these could be sticking and allowing current to pass through to the motor.

Oops - edit. I see you disconnected the limit switch, so my initial suggestion isn't going to help. To me it sounds like the PO modified the system somehow. Really what you need to do is just trace the hot wire from the compressor to wherever it goes... that will tell you what you need to know, I'll wager.
FWIW, I really (REALLY) like my ELII system. My only kick is that the PO replaced the compressor(s) with a couple junkyard units that aren't all that quick. It's not a big deal, but I have to allow a few extra minutes to get my coach to ride height if I've parked it with the tail down.

Francois,
The melted insulation in the wire loom in the dash is a concern if you haven't dealt with the nichrome wire.
Changing to larger gauge wire will not solve the problem.
If you haven't replaced the wire look up recent posts on the topic or look up Jim B or Ken H's solution.

Sounds like the problem I had. A bad sensor in the wheel well. There is a plug that has all the wires to and from both sensors near the suspension pumps. Disconnecting it will check for sensor issues and allow the manual system to work. (Also having this same plug not fully connected might give odd results.)
OBTW: I do not remember any pressure switches in the EL-2 system. Seems they selected pumps that are not capable of making enough pressure to damage anything!

John Sharp is very proficient when it comes to this system.
I don't see why some of you do not call us and ask for help.
Nick and I spend considerable time in assisting non customers as well as customers.
It makes sense to help a non customer , since once they see what were willing to do, and being the major supplier, one does not need to figure it out.

Bee sure to let John know that I refered you.
Sometimes the electronic height control unit in the wheel well can get stick and signal compressor it is low.
