G'day,
It would be nice to help prospective newbies with some info regarding wet baths. The #1 objection to wet baths is that they "need to
be dried out" after use.
On one of my stays at the Coop RV Camp Jim let me use JG when Double Trouble was up on the lift with the holding tank being
repaired.
I found it much easier to shower standing sideways than in the dry bath in Double Trouble. When I was done I would wipe down the
toilet lid / seat and sink / horizontal surfaces and leave the exhaust fan on. I don't remember if it was the small round one or a
large Fantastic Fan.
Unfortunately I never checked to see how long it took for the bathroom to dry our completely.
Could those of you with wet baths please advise what "system" you use to take a shower and how long it takes for it to dry out after
use.
Regards,
Rob M.

Rob,
I'm a single guy, so I leave the seat up . . . Especially, when I shower. The seat and lid stay pretty dry that way. You end up with maybe an extra quart of water in the bowl, assuming you don't aim the shower head at it. (Figure it doesn't matter which drain it goes down anyway). I have 4 squares of the rubbery/plastic Dry Deck tiles, and they dry quickly. It probably takes awhile for the shower floor to dry under them to do so, but you won't know it unless you take them out. (Dry Deck tiles are the same ones they had just outside most of the public showers in Branson). I don't have the plastic curtain on the sink/medicine side of the "shower" and I do have the one hanging for the door side, but never use it, as I need the elbow room, so will often leave the door partly open. The sink countertop gets a little wet, but the medicine cabinet and lower storage doors stay pretty dry. I do usually take the toilet paper off the hanger, since I don't use the curtain on that side, just in case I drop the shower head at a bad angle. I give the walls and the door a quick wipe with the towel leave the fantastic fan on low exhaust and leave the door open. There isn't much airflow if the door gets sucked closed. It probably doesn't take more than 10 minutes to be dry afterwards.

We have a hand squeegee (had to look up the spelling for that!)and wipe down the inner surfaces, turn on the fan, close the door. Maybe use the towel on the sink area. Never timed it but always dry and serviceable before the next use. 5 minutes? 10 maybe.

We have the Royale with a separate shower stall...
Shoe-Horn myself through the opening
Close Door
Make sure shower head is turned off
Turn on single handle valve to known temp setting
Turn on shower head, once water is warm wet down, turn off shower head
Soap wash
Turn on shower head and rinse, turn off shower head and main valve
Open Door & grab towel
Dry off
Squeeze back through opening.
Funny thing, every year during winter storage, the opening to the shower stall seems to shrink !!!

How we shower.
We have a large beach towel that hangs on towel bar behind the toilet
To get ready to shower we remove a small trash can
The beach towel and trash can go in to the hall.
Pull the shower curtains by the door the other by the sink.
We have a valve up at the top of the shower hose that is turned on.
Set the water temperature at sink.
We close it off when we dry camping to soap down to save water.
We have towels hanging up on hooks outside the door on the bathroom side for our use.
To clean up first flush the toilet then wipe down the bathroom.
Fan on when cleaning up.
The wipe down towel is then hung up trash can put away.
Last one out cleans up.

Ray,
When John Sharpe let me use his Royale to sleep in here in Houston I noted that the handle on the shower door stuck out a hell of a
lot so I removed it, cut it down and re-tapped the mounting holes that helped a bit.
Actually Double Trouble came with the shower door gone and a curtain in it's place across the top of the entry door. I copied
LarryW's shower curtain rod that is "L" shaped.
The curved wall in the Avion made it a bit harder than a Royale.
Loose the door, install a shower curtain rod, find a nice shower curtain (you'll have to cut it in half and set the correct length)
and Bob's your Uncle!

Hmmm good topic,
> We have an ex Royale which came with a dry side bath which Gail wanted.
>I couldn't stand up in it, looked at moving the plumbing under the floor to get more height, ended up scrapping it and moving the shower to the rear- love it.
> We are planning to do more touring in the U.S. and I am keen on buying a GMC rather than renting a SOB, but Gail is not so keen, but must have a dry bath, back to square one.
>Not wanting to spend all our time working on a GMC (Gail said)I was looking for a Quick fix. Our last rental had a "dome" on the roof which gave the shower more head hight, has any one tried this or a large vent in their GMC to make a dry bath more usable?

We have had both a wet and dry GMC. Our current '74 is a stock wet bath. We do not miss the dry shower. We shower with the bathroom door open blocking the hall from the front of the coach.
1. Adjusting the water was a pain. Getting the faucet adjusted and the diverter going usually ended with water that was too cold or too hot, followed by the opposite extreme.
I put a hydrawand bidet device that keeps the shower temperature spot on where we set it. I am a hero with my wife. Absolute hero. Love it. No more flip flops in camp showers for us.
2. When I put in a on demand aux water heater I replaced the shower head with the one that came with the heater... we have a nice length of hose. I also used the holder that came with it so we can hang the shower head up and it aims pretty much like a regular shower if you don't want to hold it. Good for rinsing off shampoo.
3. Turn on the hydrawand, turn on the shower head in the sink for a few seconds to get cold water out of the hose and pipe. Pull curtains and...
4. Shower, turning water off at the head while soaping up, etc.
5. Pull back curtain, and get towel from edge of bed. (Good if you remember to put it there, before. My honey usually hands it to me unless she has a really good book. Ha.)
6. Use a squeegee we keep by the toilet to chase water to the drain. There is always some left behind the toilet. If parked we just don't worry about it.
7. If we are moving the next morning, we make sure to keep the mat out in the hall so water can run around, eventually hitting the drain.
8. We rarely open the bathroom vent which is Fantastic Vent size.
9. Ruth goes first and I do cleanup. The whole process goes pretty quickly... at least as fast as at home.
We shower daily. We have never had any mold or ucky stuff in the bath or behind the toilet. We find we can both shower and use less than a quarter tank of water, unless Ruth needs to wash her hair. If we are driving the bath gets warm from the engine coolant running in the water heater. By the first stop the bath is dry and we put the mat in.
We can dry camp and take showers three nights. In the boonies we usually toss dish water to keep the black water a bit behind the fresh water. We also use a pan in the bath sink when dry camping and toss that water as well.

Rob,
When we talk and measured last night, I commented on the shower head that I used in the stretch coach. You control the flow on the handle along with a shutoff and it gives a great shower with less water. The wife loves it!

Also comes in chrome and nickel at a slight higher price.

Rob,
No, you can use the shutoff or you can adjust the total flow from a trickle to a heavy flow depending on how much water you want to use. As I told you I use one of the temperature/pressure balanced shower valves in the stretch instead of the 2 separate valve set up and will be doing the same for the Avion Restoration. It really controls the water temp well.
