Seems like energy independence is a wonderful goal to reach. However, between political wrangling, EPA requirements, and other factors, it may not come around as quickly as we'd like.
Thanks for the link, it was an interesting article.

Espen,
Do you think the US can fix the problem by adopting the Norwegian tax rates?
Corporate tax: 28%
Individual (min): 0%
Individual (max): 47.8%
Payroll tax (usually reduces taxable income): 14.128%
VAT / GST / Sales Primary tax articles: 25% or 15% (food & drink in shops) or 8% (transportation, cinema, hotel rooms)

Espen,
I was trying to be subtle and let you know that in my opinion people that aren't citizens of a country shouldn't make smart ass
comments like:
"Oh congratulations on reaching a new level of national depts by the way, your goverment now owes a wopping $ 17.000.000.000.000."
I could continue this discussion but this is not the place for it.

Well I would agree with you on people that aren't citizens of a country shouldn't make smart ass comments, but and there is a BIG but here, the US economy is still the world economy and when it falls it will have effects on rest of the world including my country.
So when your economy is run by people that have a goal of making them self rich without consern of their country and citizens smart ass comments is in it's place.
But please do not get me wrong, I love the US and it's people, I just do not understand how the citizens will allow it to go down the drain becouse of greed...
Then the discussion is over for my part, maybe we can take it up over a couple of beer's once in the future

I agree, it was just the way it came across.
IMO fiscal irresponsibility is rampant in the USA all levels.
I have never been to Norway but the few people I've met of Norwegian descent I've liked.
I did make the mistake of asking one if he was Swedish and he noted; "ten thousand Swedes ran through the weeds chased by one
Norwegian."
Kinda like asking a Canadian if he's American or a New Zealander if he's Australian. ;-)

Rob

Hi Rob,
My Grandmother came from Norway and Grandfather from Sweden = landed in
North Dakota and wagon trained it across to southern Alberta. I hope that
is enough for you to like me!!!!
On our trip last year across Canada and down through the States to New
Orleans than across to Texas where we met a couple on the cruise we took
out of Galveston. THe US vice presidential debate was being televised at
teh time and I mentioned I was going to my room to watch it. He was
surprised and asked me why and where did I stand - Right - center - or
Left. I told him - much to his surprise. He then asked me where Sharon
stood on this - and again he was surprised. He said "I thought all
Canadians were left wind Socialists" .
In 1992 I went in with a few others to inspect Romanian Orphanages under
the request of a small town Mayor. What we viewed in the Orphanages and
hospitals was alarming. Their Social system had failed them badly - It
went from Socialism to Dictatorship. The Leadership was corrupt and the
people held in bondage - all the time being told they had the best. They
had free medical - but in order to get proper attention you had to pay
under the table. To get accepted in a Free University you had to pay the
directors under the table. All the while you had your water cut off 6 hrs
a day, very limited food selection, poor infastructure and and could go on
and on.
The more government gets involved the less freedom we have. You will note
that the majority of govt leadership have gone through school - possibly
secondary education then into social working (paid by the govt, (the
people) then into politics. never having run a private business where they
have to make ends meet.
Enough said.
We are to help the poor in this world not use them for our gain.
