Rookie question here:

Does the flywheel need to be removed in order to remove the starter? There does not seem to be enough bolt clearance without doing so. I need to go borrow a puller if the flywheel needs to come off....

Flywheel does not need to be removed.

There are two bolts holding the starter. No need to remove the front cover or the flywheel.

Disconnect the battery lead before removing the starter.

I should have specified, this is on a 4000W Onan, not a 6000W. The 6000 is very easy to swap out, but the 4000 looks quite a bit different. I'm back to thinking the flywheel might have to come off.

Yes, you do need to remove the flywheel. I’ve sent pages from the Onan manual via email.

The most common one is the 6000 watt, even in the Royale.
Yes, the 4000w would require the removal of the flywheel. Do you need copies of pages from the Onan manual?
