My FAN CLUTCH FROZE up on the way home from
Branson it is really load when it's spinning full speed.
I ordered a Hayden 2797 (severe duty) because the
parts interchange index has that model marked (RECOMMENDED).
Now a few of my GMC friends say that model will always be running
and I should have ordered a lighter duty clutch. Please share your
wisdom on this subject and also any tips on the install. It was easy
putting in when I had the frame and engine out of the coach last year.
I have another Rally next Thur. so I have to hustle.
We had a good time at Branson, I hope we can make it to Texas in
the spring. Maybe I'll have the coach all done by then, or will it really
ever be done done.

| . Some don't like Hayden but it works ok for me. In my opinion the sever duty 2797 is a better choice then the heavy duty 2747. Mine doesn't engage till about 210 or 220 degrees and it doesn't roar like the earlier ones did. I'm running 3:70 gears so I know when it kicks in. I had a 2747 on mine when they came out and I didn't like it. The last thing you need is an overheating motor.

If the clutch is held on by bolts it would be in your best interest to replace them with studs to make changing the clutch easy from the top side . Just unbolt the fan and lay it against the radiator take the 4 nuts and washers off the clutch and lift it out. With studs it will be easy to bolt it back on.

I called Kanomata when mine quit. He sent me one in a Delco box, works just like the one that died.

I went through 3 of them trying to get one that would not come on early. In fact it stayed on most of the time. In working with their engineers they bragged about them coming on at a lower temperature than the OEM AC Delco. Hayden tried to get me to field modify the temperature spring on the 3rd one. I refused and sent it back to Hayden. Hayden refunded my money and I installed an heavy duty Delco instead.
I then worked with Delco engineering. They asked for diameter measurements and pitch of the fan and recommended the Heavy duty clutch. To install the severe duty was not recommenced and also required a minimum of two 1/2' belts to drive it.
I recommend the heavy duty Delco though some people do run the severe duty ones. Make sure your belts are good and tensioned properly if you use the severe duty one.

I run the Hayden 2747 Heavy Duty and love it. I tried the Severe Duty, it was on way too often and it just roared.

15-4208.
It appears to be superseded with 15-4216.
The 15-4644 is the SEVERE duty clutch that Jim K. sells.

Steve Fergerson tested several fan clutches a year or two ago.i believe he said Hayden supplies GM with heavy duty clutches? He may have more input here.if that is the case you would be buying a Hayden clutch in GM box .

When I was doing the research about 8 years ago, the AC Delco 4644 was NOT made by Hayden, and they were NOT the same clutch as the Hayden. At the time they were built somewhere in the midwest but I forgot where.
That could have changed to Mexico or China now.

MGHAMMS,
Yes, from the top. If it is stock there is almost no chance from the bottom.
But without any hint what year, engine an mods, the best anybody (like me) can do is give a non-specific wild-assed guess.
So, cut a belly board and get out a wrench. There can be many shortcuts.
You would yourself a favor to add a sigfile. Then, we can be a lot more help.

It will be a lot easier to put the new fan back on if you have studs in the water pump rather then bolts

Break the fan bolts loose first while on the shaft as one can hold the
blade with your hand as you loosen the bolts.
Then break the 4 nuts on the pump with the belts in place.
The pulley can tilt a little, but if your careful, you can run up the nuts
when installing by doing some little so it will tilt it back to normal.
