Heading out in the AM with a new to me unknown 77 Royale on a 570 mile run from Henderson,NV to Rio Rancho, NM. The coach has been in storage for the past 6 years here in NV but the tanks had been drained and oil squirted into the cylinders when it was parked.
It seems to run pretty well although the vacuum is a little low @ about 15" at idle. The trans shifts a little funny but I think (hope) it will be ok. It also seems to have a small exhaust leak, at least that's what it sounds like although I couldn't ID it completely. I put a set of good wheels/tires on it and a set of plugs and wires and an inline fuel filter. Shot a little grease in the rear pins and changed the oil. Hope to be ready for the trip. Wish us luck, thanks.

Good luck!
We only had about 20 days to prep a 78 Royale before we started our 2300 mile trip from the PNW to Texas. By the grace of God we had few if any problems. No cruise control or dash air the entire route though. Got a bit toasty going through AZ even in April.
There's an upcoming rally hosted by the Saguaro Jetset motorhome club in November. Check it out.

having moved a number of these coaches across country that have been sitting for years i would advise a couple things. first drain a quart of oil or so and add some tranny fluid to the oil and let it run for 30-45 min. it will aide in lubing any sticky valve guides then change the oil. had 1 unit that sounded great and it ended up dropping a valve 300 miles into the trip. also change the alternator belt and have a spare with you. i would also replace the vacuum line on the tranny to the modulator. i found that you cant fix everything before hand as there are a thousand things that can curb you but those 3 are the best things i have learned the hard way. good luck. you have some hills along the way on that route. chances are that if you can get over the hump going to boulder city and get to I-40 your good to go. keep it under 60 and watch that oil pressure and temp gauge.

We made it-I know the Lord had his angles watching over us.
No real problems although once in a while I did have a gas smell I didn't like. I've made the run probably 200 times so I know the route very well and it ran the hills without heating. It is a little (a LOT) gutless but then it's been sitting since 1999 except for the one run to Las Vegas from San Diego six years ago.It seemed to use a little oil although you couldn't see any out the exhaust.
Now if we can get by DMV here I'll get on with the Diesel swap, but that's a whole different story.
