Bill,
A - The stupid question rule still applies here.
B - If by plugging in you mean the big plug and socket in the box, then the answer is:
Highly Unlikely.
Though there are several possible answers, what you are hoping to do probably will not work as most of the later GMCs (those without a dedicated APU battery) have had the Onan charging circuit disabled.
There is, however, no telling what some PO may have done.

| I am going to throw something out that conflicts with previous posts.
On both of my 73s, the house battery charges off the converter (along with the chassis battery, through the isolater), and the converter only gets power from the Onan if the big power cord for the house 120VAC is plugged into the generator plug.
If the internal Onan internal charger (for charging a dedicated start battery) has been disabled, the only "juice" flowing from the Onan is the 120VAC stuff, which can only come from the Onan 50 receptacle. So the 50A plug has to be plugged into the on-board 50A receptacle.
And if you were asking about the converter plug, it has to be plugged into active AC power. You can run an extension cord from someplace else to power the converter if you want.
