So Opening up the rear bed platform I found a stash of OEM GM fan belts that look old....
Should these be kept or chucked?
I think I know the answer but hey, I am cheap....

If they have the correct printing and cross ref to some muscle car applications they might be good for show. I'd say they have timed out for highway use being rubber.

Gene,
When the Dayco Top-Cog belt failed the wrench test, I went to their
website to see why. It stated that they were correct. So I called to
find out what was wrong. The engineer I talked to told me that they
had had problems with people putting the belts on badly worn
pulleys(old GMCs?) and tearing the top corners of the belts and then
submitting warranty claims. To correct the problem they started
clipping the top corners of the belts. He also said that the only
correct way to measure their belts was to drop the belt into a
machinist protractor, or equivalent, and measure across the top
of the belt from leg to leg of the protractor. When I did that, the
belt measured correctly. It also worked fine.
Sorry for the long explanation, but that's the whole story.

Considering how inexpensive new belts are, what a pain it is to change them, and the consequences of failure, I would keep them as emergency backups or not at all. FYI Amazon has all the correct Goodyear Gatorback belts that pass the 10mm test. You can get a full set for about $45 (3 belts, and free shipping)
