It seems a general problem that the bolts of the lower hing shear through the door
Anyone found a good fix?

The bolts shear? Or they wear a hole and the bolt head protrudes thru? My bolts were wearing the aluminum thin so I made a steel plate to span both bolt holes and replaced the bolts with grade 5 bolts with a thinner head so they wouldn't bind when the door was closed.
