> Have you ever heard of the $50 paint Job? Been discussed at length on the Moparts Forum and has spawned quite a few dedicated sites. Basically, you lay down thin coats with a no-nap high density roller and the paint self-levels. It takes a few coats but, unlike spraying, you can do a panel at a time. The key is the same with all paint jobs - prepping the surface.

Ugh. I tried that approach first on the roof.
It might be doable on a very small car if you have lots of time and
elbow grease to spare, but honestly a sprayer doesn't cost that much,
is about a million times faster and even in (careful) amateur hands does
a better job. You can always polish/buff the sprayed paint if it's
not good enough, and you'll still end up with less work. Whether you
spray or roll, if you're not in a paint booth you'll have bugs/dirt
in any kind of paint, no matter how it's applied. The roller is just a lot
more labor intensive and difficult to get smooth.

I will add if you have to paint outside like I did, don't try
to do a clear coat. Just go for a single stage paint and be done.
There will be bugs, etc, but they'll be buried down in the paint, not
encased in a clear layer like some weird trophy. Break the job up into
sections (eg roof, left side, right side). Avoid pearl/metallic paint
except in small sections -- it's hard to apply evenly and even harder to repair.

I used a sprayer and paint from Summit Racing (plus clear from Southern Polyurethane,
but I wouldn't try to do clear again.) The result could be improved immensely if
I'd bother to cut/polish it, but somehow there are always more important things to do.
Sure made a huge difference in how the coach looks though, and only cost about $1K
(plus 3 months of labor, mostly in prep)

just my .02.
