My coach has the original rooftop AC that really doesn't work. My parts coach has a much newer AC that works well. I want to swap them out.

I have all the bolts and screws out from inside and am now ready to remove AC from the roof. Any tricks to getting it free from the adhesive?

When I put the new AC on, can i just use thick butyl tape as the new gasket or do I need something better?

Thanks

I just replaced my original coleman on my 73, there was no adhesive, just a dense foam that is comressed as the 4 bolts are tightened. The new dometic units came with the dense foam adhered to the AC unit. It seals as it compresses against the roof...directions said to tighten bolts till seal compresses to 3/4" iirc.

Most RV stores have a foam square seal that is used to mount the AC unit on the roof.

Mike,

As a guy that used to remove his rooftop A/C several times a year, (I needed about 1-1/2 inches less to clear the barn door) it should be no problem.

They are set on a foam gasket that may be stuck either to the A/C unit or the roof. In either case, if it sticks the unit down, then it will probably tear as soon as you try to lift it.

The hardest part is always the lifting and lowering. I used a tree for that. I know you don't have a tree handy at home, but I can lend you tackle if you find one (Or a barn, bridge or hoist frame).

If you have questions/problems - Call I am less than an hour away.
