This is a good deal, provided the motor is not destroyed. Be advised that it will not fit in a 23' generator compartment, since it's physical size is very close to the same as the ev6010. Too far for me to chase.

It was working when removed from the original coach. It has 140 hours on it
and is in good condition. So for that price, I bought it about 30 minutes
after RC posted the link here. I'm not sure if it will fit my 23' Birchaven,
but for that price, I'll do some experimenting.
Now I'm planning to drive from Sacramento to Eugene to pick it up. I think I
will combine that trip with the Coos Bay shindig and attend my first GMC
gathering! Of course my GMC isn't up to the trip yet, but I WILL be driving
my GMC Sierra!
Thanks for the link and heads up RC,
Guy Lopes

>Thanks for the link and heads up RC,
You're welcome, Guy. I was playing around with my deep search of Craigslist program and the EV gensets seemed like a good target. Judging by the kudos that genset consistently gets from gmcnet, that one seems worth the price even if it's a donor.

Congrats Guy! You cant go wrong anyway you look. Pinellas Power on the other side of Florida sells rebuilt 4010's and 6010's for $5K with a 1 year warranty. They'll pay $900.-1200 for cores.

Jim, When I was a RV dealership service manger back in the 80's we installed 100's of these in SOB's. Like I said , a really good gen.set but noisey. I don't know when they were discontinued.

More input on the Honda EV4000: Called my Honda tech, saif the EV4000 was discontinued in 1988, no parts are supported today. It was a very hot runner, he hated them and would not mess with them-- himself. Of course that's his opinion being a 4010 guy. For restorations, I'm not interested but hey if it's cheap enough what the heck!

The EV4000 is a single cyl. air cooled unit. Noisey but very good. Entirely different than the EV4010.

I have emailed Bud, who initially reported that he had installed an EV4000
in his 23 footer. His is actually an EV4010. Two different animals. The 4000
is air cooled and the 4010 is water cooled.
I have spoken to Jim B who's generator expert doesn't like the EV4000. Can't
get parts for it (?), hot runner, etc.
So I will stick with my 4k Onan, and turn my EV4000 into a home backup
generator... or sell it.

Although no details of the modification were provided, one has been
installed in a 23', in 2011:

| I measured the bottom of my compartment this morning and from the body to the back of the compartment is 24". The door is 23" wide. It appears to me that the door is between two "structural" body areas. To put something bigger than 23" X 24" in that compartment means you have to either give up some living space, or do "structural" body work to make the door bigger. Otherwise you can't pull the genset out to service it.
