I am getting ready for the 2000 miles to Branson and back. I just looked at the log book and realized, that I changed the engine oil this spring as usual, but not as usual, we have put over 9000 miles on and still have year left. I only discovered this because I was about to add a third quart. (Not bragging, I didn't build this engine.)

I am running M 15-50 with Moly (no longer available) and I am wondering if I should bother to change it the oil before departing for Branson. Mobil says it is good with it and that is without the MoS2. I am trying to decide if I should not just leave it alone and change the oil in the spring like I have the past seven springs.

What we do to engines and vehicles in testing does not relate to real world in situations like this. Engines get run 22 hours a day and lube oil is changes out on a schedule. Vehicles accumulate mileage so fast that lube oil changes would be an almost continual process.

I am thinking I may change the lube oil out just because it is less expensive than engine work....

How does the oil look? Is it gold or black? Does it smell loaded with fuel?

I usually judge mine on looks and smell more than miles.

Matt,

I think this is a rhetorical questtion -- you have already decided to change -- you're just hesitating.

Have a safe trip to Branson.

You'll enjoy the drive better with clean oil. Story----Guy at work tryed stretchingggggg the oil change interval on his 318 Durango, in winter to make it worse. I told him some Mopars had sludging issues and not a wise move. The next week he's leaving work early to go look at new vehicles. Motor went on the Durango---rod bearing.

Change it now or later your choice. But I would suggest you change it in the fall before storage.
