24 Hours At Burning Man (mildly nsfw)

http://www.buzzfeed.com/kevintang/24-hours-at-burning-man

I'll add that there is lots of chatter this year that BM has jumped the shark. That it's becoming such an attraction that even, umm, old guys want to go, heheh. No really, there are corporate charter tours springing up to service BM in (relative) comfort.

I am going next year.

If i am still alive.

Mickey :-)

It would be a good idea to attach the air pump to an outside sprayer to spray dust off before entering a tent that would

be a cleaning tent before entering the rv. Also cover the rv completely with a cover you drive onto and pull up and one

that you pull over the top this should help keep the dust off. putting in a wood floor would be better than carpet with that sand.

an out door shower would be good as well. Art is worth living for. I love art. :-)

Not having my fenders on the front to protect from the dust and mud if it rains could be a problem. .

IMO, BM jumped the shark when digital cameras became ubiquitous. I went
in 2004 and many things had become PG because cameras were now
everywhere. Last year, many of the "attractions" were behind closed
doors too. Some establishments were even checking ID if there was liquor
available since the BLM had schills running around trying to catch
underage drinking. It's been said that the most dangerous place to deal
in drugs is at BM. There were 68 undercover agents there.

I did see a charter bus too. It was like a tailgate event. A bunch of
pink people popped out, they had a big grill setup and bicycles for them
to ride. They only came in just hours before the burn. If they
restricted admission to the first 4 or 5 days of the week, I think
they'd get back to how it was and less tourist/frat boy attendance.

BTW, there's been old guys there for a long time. Part of the nice thing
about it - old hippies, young hippies.

Excellent point. I've often made the comment that in any given greasy spoon or hamburger joint there are now 30+ digital cameras ready-willing-able to record an event. Just ask the localities that are having to deal with their citizens surveilling the constabulary and leadership. Cams have caused a lot of change, indeed. Some good. Some bad.

Heh! I know. When I was a kid I liked to rake a stick along the side of the coop just to hear the squawking.

Burning man is fantastic if you love dust,0% humidity and law enforcement. What was once a gathering of artists, activists and bohemian types seems to have turned in to another Super Bowl type event. With the attendance appeoching 70k resources are being pushed to the limit in Gerlach. Locally, it's a double edged sword. There are a lot of people that make a majority of their yearly income on the event but when it comes down to whether its a benefit to the community at large the jury is still out. Don't get me wrong I'm not anti BM and I still think that it's a bucket list entry that everyone should experience once. And regarding age in my opinion there's 1 person over 50 for every one person under 25. As for bringing your GMC out here? DON'T. You'll never get all the dust out of it. My ad ice to anyone is to either pick up a cheap Rv or trailer on Reno Craig's list or rent a trailer early. I know a couple really good guys locally that have nice units and are pros onsite with any problems. I'd say rent from me but I charge way to much. Stay dusty )*(

I'd be willing to put my spare rig out there as a rental unit in a
heartbeat, considering what you rent 'em for and that there's still a
waiting list. :) The Royale needs work, though. Black tank, unknown
electrical and appliances, etc.

I took my PB in 2011. Won't hesitate to take it again. Can't afford a rental and the coach was infinitely better than my first trip in a tent. Regarding "... never get all the dust out..." while that's correct to a point, like I still see dust in places that don't get opened very often, like the propane compartment or the water/shore power compartment, but seeing some white dust is more of a pleasant nostalgic reminder than an annoyance. That said, it's definitely a good thing to seal up any un-needed openings. In my case my door seal was marginal and a problem. As to washing before entering the coach, I frankly think that's overkill beyond the point of diminishing returns. Fact is that the playa dust is reputedly among the finest particle size dust on earth, and you cannot keep it out short of a complete hermetic air lock. You just expect to spend a week cleaning and recleaning every surface when you get back. I was able to clean the inside living spaces completely so only a
close eye might see tell-take evidence in cracks or crevices.
On the plus side, the 0% humidity made my swamp cooler work very well.

Does that sand blow off with high pressure if you have an air spry outside the door in a smaller tent?

Does it kill the radiator?

Please share any designs for this event that works.

thank you Mickey :-)

I like the adventure of it. The cold nights hot days, seeing people have fun with art.
