Hey All,

Decided to finally test the water system in the coach. It failed. Water went everywhere and started spewing out the rear floor onto the ground. I tore the rear lounge apart, which was modified by the previous owner, and found that the fresh water tank has several cracks. This had obviously been a problem before, as the floor was completely rotten. The previous owner had put several new layers of plywood on top of the bad stuff. I also have a leaking water heater that needs replacement.

I am looking for advice on two fronts.

1) What is the best and most cost effective way to acquire a non-leaking tank and water heater? If I were to buy a new water heater, which is the best option?

2) I want to restore the rear settee to original specs, but have no real basis to go off of other than a few pics online. Anyone have dimensions, pics or experience here? At this point, Im not even sure how to secure the seats properly. The previous owner completely changed to back in order to make a higher, permanent bed. Seeing as though this is total rebuild, are there potential upgrades or things to include in the build that we're not original that may make my life a little easier going forward?

Thank you for any assistance!

1. http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/836

2. What original layout do you have? Settees opposite each other with one over the Onan and the other over the watertank?
Or did yours have a seat across the rear?

Hi Chad,

Affordable RV in Milwaukie has 45 gal tanks that may serve you. $95.00. Don't have dimensions but worth a visit. 15555 SE McLaughlin Blvd. 503 659-3610.

A number of us have dumped the electric heater in favor of on demand propane units fitted behind the refrig. Several brands that all look alike available for $130-$200 on line. Stop by and look at mine if curious.

Plan on the Coos Bay rally in Oct to learn a bunch about your new money pit.

Chad,
I realize you asked about acquiring a non-leaking tank, but these tanks are repairable, depending on the extent of the damage. I found a video that explains the options: http://on.aol.com/video/how-to-repair-an-rvs-fresh-water-tank-cracks-517430673
The polyethylene material is widely available. I know a place that sells it for $3, and they even include a gallon of milk at no extra charge :-)

I am sending to your email address a page from the assembly manual that shows a seat in place with the mounting brackets.

there is a wooden top over the water tank and on the other side there is a wooden box over the Onan compartment.
On the top back of each wooden top a piece of aluminum channel is fastened. The back square metal bar of the seat bottom slides into this channel. At the front is an aluminum angle. The front square metal bar of the seat bottom goes against this when the seat is slid into place and two bolts go through the holes in the seat base bar to hold the seat in place.

It would probably be best if you go and look at someone else's installation to see how it all fits.

Guys,

Thanks for all of the info! I have repaired the rotten floor area and have begun fabrication of new boxes that will cover the Onan and propane compartments. I ordered a new water tank, as this one looks pretty bad. It has about 5 splits in it that originate from the sending unit, and I'm not sure I trust my repair work. I am in the process of removing the old water heater as well. It may be a while before that gets replaced.

I'm hoping to have most of it back together before my trip tomorrow. Haha. Wish me luck!

Chad
