Strangest thing
Olga has a new (PO) edelbrock carb, all nice and fine, but I just found out that airfilterhouse does not clear the fuelline and therefor the PO hat cut out a bit of the filterhousing and taped it of. Thus alowing the fuelline to press into the soft tape????
Anybody seen anything like that before?
Does the edelbrock require a different airfilterhousing ??
I2ll see what I can do about pictures in the evening

As long as the air FILTER is sealed to the metal top and bottom, the filter will do it's job. If there is a gap under/over the air filter itself, 'STUFF' can get through and cause potential problems. Dirt, dust, bugs, etc.
Here we have mud dobbers, wasps that make nests out of mud. They LOVE to find a hole or cavity to lay their eggs in and plug them up with mud. If we leave anything open for a while, they'll plug it up.
I believe the reason for the air cleaner design is to attempt to get the air velocity up as it goes into the carb. Personally, I believe the snorkel is too small but I'm not an engineer so it's just an opinion. A lot of people have ducted air from the grill in order to get cool air into the carb.

The 73 air cleaner housing fit just fine over the Edelbrock carburetor
and the original 73 distributor. Problem came when I added the HEI
distributor.

The air cleaner that is used with the HEI dizzy is different, it has more clearance to clear the cap and dizzy body. Some have beat the housing to make the clearance for the larger HEI Cap.
