What does the switch in the entrance door frame usually turn on? I'm assuming a light somewhere. It looks like it makes/breaks a ground. It's a 78 Royale, so no wiring schematic available that I can find
TIA,
Shot

We all have them but what I can tell is most of them don't do anything. They can light a light on the dash, they can light the light over the sink, they can light a light by the dinette, they can turn on the dome lights but mine doesn't do anything. Sad

Shot,

On GMC upfitted coaches the map lights in the cockpit have a three way switch, off, on, and door switch operated. The door switch can also light either a floor lamp in the 23 ft or a light over the sink in the 26.
So, I would think you should at least have cockpit lights.

Dennis,
Thanks for the info. I always wondered why those lites had a 3 position switch. That will save me from tracing the circuits.

Shot,

Of course, your's could be different... I am sure you have the link, but for others here is the transmode wiring diagram for 77/78 models with electrolevel 1.

Hi Shot: On mine it also triggers the open door lite and the key buzzer.

On my '73 I ran a single conductor to the courtesy lights to achieve the later up fitted mod...the courtesy light just needs a ground that the switch provides...furthermore, I ran a wire from the existing door light on the dinette to a pair of LED license plate lights mounted under coach and splash the ground with ample light at night to "see" what you am be stepping on...

On my coach the switch works a telltale light on dash and buzzer when ign is turned on. Can be adjusted somewhat for door open sensitivity.

By changing it to a double contact type swt, anf fish another wire, then it could also activate a security alarm, or a light, or ?.
