We just purchased our motorhome. Many things, like the stove and shower, have never been used.  Can anyone tell me what the secret is to using the shower? Tank is full, sink on & stopper pulled. Help!

Shelby,
Does your bath look like this? Standard wet bath! Now look at the end of the faucet that the water comes out of and there is a round knob. It should pull out towards you and the water will come out the shower head. Be sure to put the shower head in the sink when testing. It may be stuck with corrosion and you may need to take it apart and clean and grease the orings inside. There is a little bolt or screw on the end with the knob. Be sure and put a rag in the bottom of the sink to catch anything that you might drop as if it goes down the hole, well you get the idea.

Welcome to the net!
Do you have water at the sink? To have pressure you must be connected to city water or have your house water pump on.
By stopper, do you mean the diverter in the end of the faucet?
Does your shower head have a button or switch to turn the water on/off?

AND, if the valve that is in the shower head leaks or doesn't work you can easily add one of these.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/shower-shutoff-valves/p34281-push-button-valve.html

I have been using the push button one for several years.

It also works well to throttle down the flow or temporary shutting it off when showering without having to fiddle with the faucet between soaping down and rinsing.

Yes, standard wet bath. Valve on faucet is pulled out, pulls pretty easy, yet no water.  Could there be a shut off somewhere?

My dumb question -- but you do have the water turned on and running into the sink when you pull out the diverter?
Does the water flowing into the sink stop?

Just to be perfectly clear, IF you have water running in the sink and you pull the diverter, the shower should flow. If it doesn't there are several possible issues:

1- The O-rings in the diverter are missing. See this thread and the imbedded link to the photo site"

http://gmc.mybirdfeeder.net/GMCforum/index.php?t=msg&goto=203103&rid=2555&srch=Faucet+with+diverter#msg_203103

With the water running, if you pull the diverter out the water going into the sink should STOP and the shower should start.

2- Shower head wand plugged up or non functional. Remove the wand and see if the shower flows. If it does the problem is in the wand. If it doesn't, the water line from the faucet to the shower is not flowing. A PO could have installed a valve or something.

I'm betting #1.

Speaking if shower wands: The X-Birch came with a shutoff valve/wall mount
eye screwed between the hose and the wand. A couple of weeks ago the
female hose coupling broke off of the valve -- impractical to repair. The
wand now hangs by the hose through the towel ring.

Does anyone know a source for either a complete wand or just the
valve/mount? The wall portion of the mount has a vertical 5/16" pin onto
which the wand eye fits. Lowes & HD visits have been fruitless, but did
prove that the hose couplings are standard.

Blocked line between diverter valve on faucet and shower nozzle?

Remove that line and put one or two feet of new line in its place.

Run that line to sink or toilet to check diverter operation.

Remove shower head from its hose and attempt to blow through hose.

Clean or replace shower head.

Reconnect cleared or replaced main hose and check system.

Take a shower and clean up now sweaty and stinky body!

Is there, by any chance, a check valve in the wall where the shower hose comes out? Mine makes noise, like there is, but I haven't investigated it (yet). If there IS a check valve, is it possible that it is plugged up or not operating properly?

That is where I would look next.

Ken,

We have one of these in our shower:

Camping World's version comes with a shut off and a wall mount.

Water is running from sink, until diverter is pulled out...then no water from sink or shower nozzel.  We'll take it apart and see what's up. Thanks.

There is no check valve anywhere in the hose.

I would suggest unscrewing the shower head (handle) from the end of the hose and see if water comes through the hose. If not, then the problem is in the faucet. If there is then its in the shower head.

We just purchased our motorhome. Many things, like the stove and shower, have never been used.  Can anyone tell me what the secret is to using the shower? Tank is full, sink on & stopper pulled. Help!

Shelby

Shelby,

Welcome to the group/family/cult/asylum

You have gotten the whole line on how to make the shower work. It does work, I use mine relatively often when we are on the road. One does have to watch water use though.

I don't think our shower had been used either. We know the over had never been lit and only one of the stove burners had been hot.

Before I forget, while the people that write here have been vetted, there is nothing to prevent anybody else form reading what gets posted here and some of them are (at least were once) spambots. So, don't post a real @ddress or phone number. If you have to, just make sure it won't fit the template that spambots use.

Other thing.. important to you - actually.
Do a sig file that includes a name, something like a coach description and a geographic reference. This way, if one of your old friends that you just met here thinks he can help, he knows what he is dealing with (the year and model are important) and with a geo reference, he will know if he or someone else that can help is in striking range.

And Lastly.
You will soon find that your coach has a different place in your life than you expected. You may have owned it a year, but you are about to make a friend. I grew up a waterman, and I compare it to the way we relate to our boats. That being said, I felt it was important to welcome new owners as a new owner or vessel would be welcomed to a waterman community. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Shelby

Matt
