I have a question about where i should look first for this leak. When I run the Onan there does not seem to be anything leaking at all. I can run it for hours with no indication of a leak. Doesn't seem to be using much oil. Once I shut it off, it leaks rather vigorously from what looks like up around the starter. But its hard to see exactly where its coming from. It will leak a half an ounce or so, then stop. Kind of strange that it just seems to leak when I shut it off and not while running.
Any ideas? Thanks all...

First check the oil filter. It might just be a little loose. It is right above the area you describe.

It thats not it then it might be the gaskets on each side of the bracket above the oil filter.

Last one might be the oil pressure sender.

My Onan was leaking in the same area. While cleaning up the mess and poking around, I put two fingers on the filter and it turned. Since I had never done any maintenance on it before, I checked the receipts I received from the PO. The oil and filter were done by a Mega RV Center (non GMC). I suppose these filters can loosen up on their on. What really worries me is that the PO used this RV place for all of the maintenance on my GMC. They even charged him $150 for an oil and filter change on the 455 with 8 qts of oil!

I would possibly look at the oil filter adpter mount .
The oil leaking after shuting down can be possibly from the heat build up
and with decrease in pressurecan influn
