Yes, r152a, also known as 1,1 difluoro ethane has been around for a long time.
Both it and hydrocarbon products such as HC12a (Durocool) have advantages over R134a.
At idle or lower RPMs Duracool transfers heat better and has less load on the compressor.

The availability of Duracool and its much lower price would seem to make it a better choice.
