Good afternoon all.
My friend Gary has been having a problem with his engine. He was
running on seven cylinders and could not find out what the problem was.
We decided to pull the distributor cap and take a look. The pin on the
cap for #7 cylinder was just about gone. Inside the cap the connection
was pulled down and not making any connection to the rotor. This was
almost too simple but had been overlooked by several mechanics. We
replaced the cap and the coil and voila, all is now good. Some times we
overlook the simple things and think we need to attack our old beast
with more expensive fixes. As a trouble shooter when I was in the air
force the rule was start with the simple things first. Rule one K.I.S.S.
Just a thought. Somebody has already invented the space shuttle

There is no substitute for a goid visual inspection. He should change oil and filter as it may be diluted with fuel from misfire

Marcel,

Good job!

I was also going to congratulate you on spelling voila correctly then I realized with a name like Marcel Bourgon you WOULD know how
to spell it correctly!

Regards,
Rob M.

I have the 403 with a 3:70 and tow a cargo trailer.  When I bought my new Springfield Ignition from Dick Patterson he set it up for my coaches engine, final drive and the trailer, the performance is awesome.

And Dick Patterson told me at Branson that the advance curves also are different for different final drive ratios.

I'm reasonably certain that my final drive is a stock 3.07.  I hope to go to a 3.70/3.73 ratio eventually.  Dick said that a distributor set for the 3.07 would suffer when coupled with a 3.70 but that one set up for the 3.70 would only suffer slightly if used with a 3.07.

With that info, I bought one there that he already had set up for my hoped for eventual 3.70 drive.
