In cruising around the Internet, I ran across information on folks refinishing their cars using Plasti-Grip. Looks interesting and actually something that could be done at home over time without too much work (though a GMC would take a fair amount of time and product).

I'm tempted to give it a try as it can be removed after the fact if you don't like the finished product. Seems that you could also do touch ups with minimal work as well.

Has anyone ever used or seen this?

George, lots of the Prius C owners do the front of the cars in this to black out the grille and bumper. Everyone likes the stuff. I don't know about doing an entire vehicle and I have no experience. I bought a black bra for our C to black it out and protect the paint.

Every time I do a Google search it comes up "Plasti-Dip"

Is that the product? If not could you include a web address?

Pasti dip. My kids use it to black out their cars. Works well.

Check www.dipyourcar.com. It is Plasti-Dip by the way, but I've always used the product on tools to increase the grip.

As usual, my Sometimers is acting up again!

George why not a vehicle wrap. Possibilities are endless. The guys at Extreme Graphics do full vehicle wraps.

I have my machines sprayed with LineX bed liner. I was in there one day and a guy was picking up a BRAND FREAKING NEW ROUSH MUSTANG that he had sprayed with blue LineX. Absolutely destroyed that car! In addition to not being able to remove it and going back to paint, he probably added 200 lbs to the car.

I am on the email list from these guys, wait for a sale, it happens about once a month.

They have the plastic wrap paint, along with some other really cool "paints"

If I decide to send either the Barn Queen or the Pinto Bean out to Red Rock
Desert Burning Man RV Rental, I would probably do something like this. The
paint on the Barn Queen is in pretty good shape, so I would prefer to coat
it with a white wrap that would hopefully save the paint from the worst
predations of the desert sun and hippies. :)

I'm a little shocked by the amount of the stuff you have to use (and the price per gallon). Figuring that a typical sedan will take 3-4 gallons of the stuff (at $199 a gallon!) I'm thinking that this would NOT be a "cheap solution" for a GMC. I can't imagine it taking less than 10-12 gallons of paint, which would push the costs over $2,000. Yes, that's less than most "real paint jobs" but still a lot of money for a product who claims that it lasts "years"... (after all, there are plenty of 35-40 year old GMCs out there with original paint that still look good).

Wait for a sale, I am pretty sure the last sale was $50 a gallon.
But yes, it is still pretty expensive to do an entire GMC
