This question has been bugging me since I installed my new dash several years ago. My tank switch is a style rocker switch. Since I removed it from the old dash, where it said which way was the main or aux tank, I no longer know which way is main or aux. Is there a way to determine which position, up or down, is the main and aux tank ??
Right now I don't know if I am on the main or if I am using the aux.

Does your front have an accessible rubber hose where it feeds the solenoid switch? I would think if you put a hemostat on the hose and it still ran you would be on the rear ( the main) you could then flip to spare and it should die after a min. Or follow the color codes to the switch and meter it out

Tom,
The switch has 5 terminals. The side with 3 terminals selects the fuel gage, the side with 2 activates the tank select solenoid valve. Use an ohm meter on the 2 terminal side to determine the open or no contact position. The switch is then in the main tank position.
Wires to that portion of the switch are pink with a double black stripe to the "middle" terminal, black to the corner one. For the fuel gage connections the wire to the terminal adjacent to the black wire would be tan with a double white stripe, to the other corner would be tan and to the middle probably both a light grey and a grey with double black stripe.

BTW the fact that there are two wires on one side and three on the other means if someone installed it up side down (switched to
MAIN actually turns on AUX and vice versa) you can't just remove the connector; turn it over, and reconnect it.
You have to remove the front dash panel and the rear dash panel to gain access to the switch itself to turn it over!
PITA!

Rob,
Could you not switch the fuel inlets to the switch if your switch is upside down rather than pull the dash apart?

Sully,
Yes that would be possible, however, the selector valve is normally not powered when you switch to AUX it is powered and you get gas
from the AUX tank.
Because the switch was upside down and MAIN was really AUX it was powered always. This caused the instrument fuse to blow
intermittently and I'd loose instruments. The intermittent fuse blowing became constant when the selector valve finally died. I
have reversed the labels on the switch
Since fuel transfers back and forth between the tanks the AUX position is normally only used when you get real low on gas and
usually you stop to fill up. .

Rob M.
